Scolari takes lead of Chelsea

Portuguese football coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has been appointed as the new manager of Chelsea, with him officially taking the position on July 1st, two days after the Euro 2008 final.

According to reports, Scolari was always Chelsea's number one choice to fill Avram Grant's boots, but has insisted no more discussions should take place until his current team, Portugal, have concluded their run in the Euro 2008 tournament.

Speaking in a statement last night, Chelsea FC said:
"Out of respect for his current role as head coach of the Portuguese national team, and to ensure minimum disruption to this work, there will be no further comment from Chelsea FC nor from Felipe about his new role until his employment with us commences."

  • Jesus H Scolari! Let's see how long he lasts. I guess he's the only one with big enough cohones to take on this smoking gun... What is it with Chelski and Portuguese managers? It's silver wear or bust.

  • Jose played it very, very cool and made it last as long as he could.

    Luiz Phillipe seems the sorta chap that could flipie out at the slightest thing. Lets see how he builds his relationship with the supporters, Roman and most importantly the media.
