Fairly recently in the study of Leonardo da Vinci, it was theorized and determined that he built robots. Famous roboticist Mark Rosheim submitted a paper with his proof to the Leonardo Society. . It was accepted and he was comissioned to recreate it for the BBC. It is designed to sit stand and move arms and uses two hand cranks, It has been displayed around the USA and is normally on display in San Diego Museum of Man.
Even Bill Gates referenced it in his article about robots in every home and Dan Brown (in Da Vinci Code) uses excerpts from Rosheims paper to describe a miniature version of this robot.

Also check out video and research showing that Leonardo depicted Christ in Last Supper with a syndactyly (webbed) left hand on Current as well as at www.Leonardoshands.com

Is there anything the original Renaissance man wasn’t into? Although most of his notes have been lost over time, we’re still fortunate to have a sampling of his works & papers, revealing the true genius of a man living well before a time when people could truly appreciate the potential scope of his worldly contributions. From his amazing artistic talents still admired daily, multitude of scientific endeavors, dozens of inventions we use today that only he really understood the potential of 500 years ago, to his understanding of anatomy & keen observation of all facets of life & the fascinating world that surrounded him.
And all this, despite opposition from the church & state unless he did their bidding, which actually financed & allowed him to pursue his lifetime of projects. Ironically, many of his inventions were geared towards warfare, just as many of ours end up this way today. I wonder how he would view the state of affairs in our world & whether or not we’ve evolved from his time or just see many of the same social ills that plagued his era. But most of all, I’d like to see his reaction to all that he accomplished, or dreamed of accomplishing in his day, that we take for granted & use in our daily routines without giving the originator a second thought. Talk about the ultimate clarity of perception!-
