"Intelligence - the dark secret of American social science and education - is coming out of the closet. Once intelligence was perceived as a narrow group of mental abilities, those measurable by an I.Q. test. But according to that view great groups of the population turned out to be not very smart or educable ..."

7 areas of intelligence -
1. Linguistic: sensitivity to the meaning and order of words; poet, translator (T. S. Eliot).
2. Logical-mathematical: the ability to handle chains of reasoning and to recognize patterns and order; mathematician, scientist (Einstein).
3. Musical: sensitivity to pitch, melody, rhythm and tone; composer, singer (Stravinsky).
4. Bodily-kinesthetic: the ability to use the body skillfully and handle objects adroitly; athlete, dancer, surgeon (Martha Graham).
5. Spatial: the ability to perceive the world accurately and to re-create or transform aspects of that world; sculptor, architect, surveyor (Picasso).
6. Interpersonal: the ability to understand people and relationships; politician, salesman, religious leader (Gandhi).
7. Intrapersonal: access to one's emotional life as a means to understand oneself and others; therapist, social worker (Freud).-

I took Cognitive Psychology last semester and they were talking about this (7 areas of intelligence) like it's been common knowledge in the psyc community for awhile. Guess it just takes time to trickle down to us normal folks...

Somehow, I think I'll still use "intelligent" to describe someone Who i recognise can form thoughts and Ideas, carry debates, use reasoning etc rather than can kick a football really hard.

Interesting. There are lots of things people should know like he said in the article. But over all IQ is a little off on who would and wouldn't be smart. I was in a class with a smart person by the name of Rohan and I always thought he was socially retarded and rude. But he was really smart....though I didn't care because of how he couldn't handle himself well with people.

It's amazing how only one joint made that story a crazy ride for me. Awesome article, that was no doubt the most entertaining free article that I've ever read.

Above intelligence I beleive it's important to be people smart, because ultimately what it boils down to is "you for the people" (not necesaarily above the people), becaust to some degree intelligence is earned and procured towards the assumption that it will be used to benefit people in some way, shape or form.
With great power comes great responsibilty, as some would say.
I acknowledge the exceptions however: some choose to withhold their intellect (or are perhaps censored) and observe the ignorant in full frivolity; it's happened, I believe. But really...where all in this together; we're all screwed if we don't use our intelligence to acquiesce the climate crisis! IQ won't mean much then...-
