How to live with just 100 things

Are two pairs of jeans enough? Does a pair of shoes count as one item or two? And should I sell my hamster? And other pressing dilemmas posed by a new grass roots movement in which people try to reduce their possessions to 100 things.

Is this an ill-advised attempt to wrest control over people's own lives - or a natural reaction to modern life?

  • its not really hard to be honest. well, as a 22 year old bachelor its not. when you can't afford stuff, you don't have stuff. besides, i like my minimalistic lifestyle

  • I think it's pretty interesting. I know I have more than 100 things and I have been trying to de-clutterize and just get rid of things because it really does clutter up your mind. I wouldn't go as far as limiting myself to 100 items, but I am interested to see how this guy does it.

If you have more than 3 jeans then you don't have to wash every week and you are saving energy . . .

  • Americans need to stop believing that more always means better. Let's stop glamorizing excess. I give full appreciation for anyone living within their means, and being cognizant of their environmental footprint. Most of us have been thru the 22 year old bachelor stage, so we CAN live with the bare necessities. Don't buy into the myth of consumerism that you are only successful by how much crap you own.
