This is truly awful. The chinese authorities did so much to try to stop the so-called 'quake lakes' from pouring into towns and villages but they've been defeated. There seems no end to the disaster!

I think given the amount of natural disasters lately....the Earth is pissed.

Years of Human Rights and Environmental abuses by China are coming back to them ten fold, and just in time for the Olympics...
Sounds harsh I know, but my thoughts are with the citizens...who will probably suffer even more abuse on account of the environmental disasters which are displacing them...
Remember, Communism was our first enemy... -
You know, I'm really sick of people blaming the Chinese citizens for everything that China has done. It isn't their fault. They tried to get democracy, they tried to get rid of communism. It's remembered as tiananmen square. They were slaughtered, arrested and exiled. Changing a system of government isnt like flipping a light switch. If it was the world would be a perfect place, there would be no communism, dictatorships, monarchies or democracy. As Churchill said "democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried." But they all still exist and I assure you it isnt for lack of trying.
And when you say communism was our first enemy who is this "our" you refer to? Can't be a Euro nation because they were all enemies with eachother at some point. Most certainly is not America because before the creation of communism and the Bolshevik Revolution America was at war with the Native Americans, the British, the Mexicans, Themselves, the Germans, and the Austro-Hungarians.-

According to the BBC this flooding happens often in China when the rainy season comes. How come we haven't heard about it before? Is it that only now there is good media access to China or is it just that China is in media vogue at the moment?

Just like we use antibiotics to cleanse ourselves of illnesses, so does mother earth in her way. Too bad the human race is the one getting flushed out in the process. One could say, however, we have been more like a virus than good blood cells to her.
