Shanghai Diaries - June 15

More Olympic gos to come tomorrow, plus a video I took that sums up a lot of the problems I have here, but for today, a look at how much progress has been made here and a bonus peek at the best damn band in China, 'Cold Fairyland'.

    Mmmm that last bit at the end of the clip with the cello gave me goose-bumps. Beautiful music. I'll be sure to do some searching for more of their stuff. Anyway, it's 2am here in Sydney (making it midnight there in Shanghai) so I'll catch up with you tomorrow.

    glad you all like them - they have forever been one band that consistently blows me away each time I see them...and I'm from Austin, so, you know, a snob.

    I was flying back Friday night from Minneapolis and in the shuttle to my car was a Chinese American girl with a cased instrument. I hadn't seen that shaped case before and asked her what it was. She said it was a pipa and was amazed that I knew about it. So of course I asked her if she knew of Cold Fairyland but she did not. Then I get home and you posted Cold Fairyland... very serendipitous!

    Very nice peek into the culture over there. And thank you for introducing us to Cold Fairyland. Their sound is outstanding and I can't wait to hear more from them.
