You will burn up every last drop just to drive around the block in a gas guzzler.

Try conservation.

  • NOW that oil is at or above $4.00/gal and we pump ANWAR tomorrow(no matter how much) the price will stay at $4.00 or above....

  • The ANWR drilling issue is something we are going to keep hearing about and it is frustrating that most people are unaware of the details around this. They take what politicians say at face value -- it will lower gas prices and it will decrease our dependence on foreign oil. They say the right things.

However, the Department of Energy just released a report on this. Some highlights (read the story for more info):

    1. We won't see a drop of oil for 10 years. It will take that long to build the infrastructure and start production.

    2. We will see the peak benefit sometime between 2028 - 2038 if we start drilling now.

    3. That peak benefit will reduce the price of a barrel of oil by $0.41 - $1.44.

    4. It would reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 2 % - 6%.

So we get a very small benefit 20 years from now. It won't do anything for us today. 20 years from now our demand for oil should be less than it is today if we get a forward - thinking energy policy.

So when we decide to put land aside as a wildlife refuge, let's leave it as such and not bail on this becuase in 20 years we can save a dollar on a barrel of oil.

Where is the logic in drilling here for anyone other than shareholders of Exxon, Chevron, etc?
