San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom plans to officiate at the private ceremony in his City Hall office before 50 invited guests. He picked Martin, 87, and Lyon, 84, for the front of the line in recognition of their long relationship and their status as pioneers of the gay rights movement.

I was there the first time they got married - they were the first couple to tie the knot when Mayor Newsom first made the change to the marriage licenses.
It's nice that this time around, they hopefully won't have to do it again!
-
I think it's amazing that they had to wait this long for a right most of us take for granted and treat callously...very sweet story
-
This is why we should just allow gay marriages, there are people out there who deserve it and want it a lot more than some heterosexuals.
-
Wow that story brought tears to my eyes, their strength and love is an inspiration to anyone regardless of sexual orientation.
-
Good for them!
-
Yeah! These 2 are the embodiment of courage.
-
Great news for gays and progressives everywhere.
Congratulations and lots of luck!!!!-

It is about time! Congratulations to the both of them and to all the others who will be tying the knot!
It has been too long and I cannot wait for the day when the idea of gay marriage makes us think how crazy it was that we denied them for so long!-

I live in California, it is 6:20p.m., an hour and a half since gay marriage became legal, and the sky has not fallen in!
-
Gay marriage is legalized and it looks like california has survived...imagine that!
-
The commitment of love sworn and sactioned in God's eyes without the human intervention of "cross" judgement.
Oh yeah. -
If they've been together for 55 years then the odds are probably pretty good that they'll be married for the rest of their lives.
I wonder if they'll do any tracking of the couples that get married and see if their divorce rates are any different.
That would be some interesting data to show which was btter for the institution I would think
-
That's so sweet! How wonderful. What a historic day! :) It's inspiring to see these women take action against oppression, and this is just the beginning. :)

Congratulations to them!! This is just so beautiful. Finally, finally, finally..

Yes, this should have been able to happen a long ago. In some ways we are so smart yet so dumb and sloooooow..........
-
This is a nice story. When I heard it yesterday it made me wonder why the various anti-gay marriage blowhards who bleat on about the sanctity of marriage don't protest more widespread hetero shams like Vegas chapels and other stunts like that. I suppose if it were really about the 'sanctity of marriage', they would.

it says love one another.but anyways i'm a lesbian too.
go Californiait's the end of the world as we know it, and i feel fine..........

I'm so happy for these women. All us Californians have to do now is to vote down that amendment in November.
-
For all the haters and protesters: why the fuck do you care so much? No one's stopping you from getting married. Are you that threatened? Do you worry that your children will be affected? If you do your job as parents than you needn't worry about your children. Live and let live. It's confusing to me why people feel the need to fuck up other people's lives...their happiness. How selfish, egotistical, and bigoted of you! :)
I could really go on with the specifics and the exceptions and everything in between, but I'll leave it at that.
-
Well hooray for them, they've lived a life full of abomination and sin for 55 years (sarcasm). You know we're in a sick society when it applauds something like this. Sodom and Gomorrah come to mind, and we know what happened to them when they allowed all sorts of immoralities to become acceptable in their societies.

I love it. yay california

Hate rots you inside. It will make you nasty and bitter. Get over it. This is wonderful news that we have finally decided to allow a large segment of our population equal human rights. God Bless America.
