Salem neighbors making noise about loud motorcycles
SALEM — There are days when Alicia Hart claims to endure the earsplitting rumble 50 times a day.

“You can hear them a half-mile in either direction,” said the Salem Common neighbor.

They ride in packs of five or six, revving their engines at stop lights and storming through the neighborhood with no regard for the peace-seeking residents who live there, she says.

  • People on motorcycles are obviously compensating for something else they're lacking. Revving an engine is the equivalent of stuffing your jock with socks to make up for what Nature gave you (or didn't give you).

  • Ironically, due to the high price of gas, more and more people are favoring the motorcycle. Harley makes them noisy on purpose, probably so everyone will know it's a Harley...marketing, maybe..?

  • You could make the argument that some people purchase motorcycles because of a lack of man meat. A the same time I had a friend who purchased a motorcycle so he could do clutch wheelies at 60 MPH. But getting back to the topic at hand some motorcycles are way to loud. Seriously put a muffler on that thing.

  • The true fact is that people that have a need to use noise while driving are bad drivers and they should NOT be on the road if they do not know how to drive. Good driving it is a combination of attention, defensive and moderate speed, education and respect for others.

    Many people get behind the wheel and they all of the sudden transform themselves into another spirit.
    Most cause of accidents are excessive speed, impulsive behavior and lack of attention.

  • Okay stopnoise you asked me to look. I think motorcycles have the right to be on the road and heard. I have been thinking about our opposite views and this is all I could come up with...I sleep really good at night. Sounds don't wake me up at night. I suppose that you don't sleep well and it is creating problems in your life. Why don't you sound proof your living area? I picture you as a madman pulling you hair out in your own home because traffic is loud and your neighbor is running a blender. Am I wrong? You must be miserable because there is alot of noise in the world (birds,rushing water,etc) and I hate to tell you there is a canyon in New Mexico that humms and no one can stop it!!!!

  • I'm not bothered by noise either (most times), but I'm also not an asshole that purposely makes noise that I know will bother someone else for the sake of "looking and sounding cool".

    I love how people say there's proof that motorcycles are least likely to be hit because the noise their engines & mufflers make "alerts" you to their presence. That's funny, because the last I checked even when you honk your horn at someone, it doesn't always keep you from getting hit. Why? Because most times the person that hits you isn't paying attention, not because your car or horn wasn't loud enough, but because they are so self involved on their cell phone, putting on makeup, messing with their radio or Ipod, eating, and texting.

    It (loud engines & mufflers) may stop a few accidents, but I doubt it's "the solution". It could easily be seen as a distraction and can actually cause other accidents if someone tries to swerve because of or is startled by the noise.

    Even ambulances and cops have trouble getting people to move out of their way with the whole fucking noise and light factory atop their vehicles. People are stupid drivers and think they can multitask while driving, and a loud fucking noise isn't gonna change that, so don't give me that bullshit. The real solution would be comprehensive driver's education before anyone (ANYONE) is allowed to recieve a license.

    I don't mind loud noise, but you better believe if I have somewhere important to go in the morning and I don't get sleep because of my neighbor's chopper, that'll be one less chopper to be arguing about.

  • In 1972 United States Congress already got to the conclusion that noise represents a danger for the population's health and well being. That was all laid down through the Noise Control Act of 1972. After that it was lobbied by the Vehicle Industry through the Reagan Administration that mistakenly went ahead and cut the funds for education and abatement. That is the reason it created this massive ignorant behavior on America's population that can be seen in some peoples comments here.

  • I just read the post about trolls. I hope you dont consider me a troll, U ask me to look though. Okay I choose to live in a industrial area. I like noise. I would hate to think someone would come and regulate that noise. I cant imagine you would be in a peaceful home so upset about noise but so be it. Why can't you be happy in your quiet place. I am happy in my noisy place. I promise to leave you alone even if you suggest the juicest topic. I dont think of you u as ignorant, and your grammer has greatly improved since we've gone back and forth. I wish you the best!!!
