Mugabe gave a chilling warning to his people yesterday asking Zimbabwe's voters: 'How can a pen fight a gun?'. Indicating he would refuse to cede power even if he loses the June 27th Presidential run-off. State controlled media reported these comments just a day after he threatened to 'go to war' to win the election.

Violence has taken a sharp upturn in recent weeks moving from beatings and torture to mutilation and killing. Bizarrely Mugabe moved to arrest opposition leaders for inciting the violence.
Britain is preparing a whole host of measures that will be used against Mugabe if he rigs the elections. Including a call for its neighbours to cut off the countries power supply and create an economic blockade.
One diplomat said: 'One way or another, this summer is likely to mark the endgame for Robert Mugabe.'
I hope too many lives are not lost in the process.

Things just seem to get worse and worse in Zimbabwe.
Although I think something needs to be drastically done to help the future of not only the country, but its people as well, I worry that an act such as South Africa cutting Zimbabwe's electricity could just rile up Mugabe even more.
Check out this pod on Zimbabwean refugees fleeing to South Africa: -
this is a blatant slap in this face not only to those in Zimbabwe (who are supposed to vote in a few weeks) but to all of us...
His actions (including the burning alive of his opponents wife) are an outrage.
No humans anywhere should be treated and threatened like this...
Africa needs friends.... -
If Mugabe leaves the country he should be arrested, this guy was in Rome a few weeks ago, he should have been arrested for various crimes against the Zimbabwean people which include, murder, destruction of property, looting of the treasury and on and on.

The election is rigged anyway. There are about 3 million Simbabwean people seeking refuge in neighbouring (Simbabwe has around 11 million citizens). Many of those refugees could vote if they were in Simbabwe and guess who they would vote for...

The bravery of the people determined to vote against him and support his opposition is awe inspiring. No help will come from America unfortunately...our government simply doesn't care. I wish there were some way we could help them.

There is something we can do We can prove him wrong and show how information can spread and sadly, that there will always be people who have to die and be in your way you are evil and you mess with our fellow men and women. People don't realize things that happen in other parts of the world affect us all, that we as a combined planet have a responsibility to take care and not let these acts of terrorism be committed anywhere.

*sigh*
I'm glad in a way that we're not getting involved...sometimes i wish our government didn't get involved in anything.
I think we should send aid to the people who want to leave, for refugees, food, water, supplies etc... but i dont think it's our business to mess with other people's leaders.
So many people get mad when we get involved with other countries affairs, and everyone else gets mad when we dont get involved. We're damned if we do, and we're damned if we don't.
On top of that, I dont think we can really trust our government to decide for us when aid in other countries is needed, because they lie to us, and go in for their own personal reasons.
I think we just need to take it into our own hands, and help fight injustice where we can. If you were truly moved by what's going on in Zimbabwe, then you'd go to Africa yourself and do something about it, instead of saying how our government needs to "care" more.-

Listen it doesn't necessarily take Americans or any other foreigners actually going over there for us to help.
All you need is a big enough petition, or even enough interest (like by voting this story make it to tv, and email to friends ) to be demonstrated and your elected officials will have no choice but to issue condemnation statements and so on. That is how this information/democracy thing works.
YOUR OFFICIALS IN YOUR DISTRICTS WORK FOR YOU!!!
-and if enough of your districts constituents show they have an opinion, guess what your representatives will too.
Its like magic, I promise!!! -
The power of the people is stronger than any one man. The people should be able to take back what was stoled from them from this pernicious pest.
-
This is the tyranny America should be fighting. Mugabe is a terrorist and a threat to freedom, he should be stopped before he can regain power.

Mugabe is power hungary.People with his characteristics usually entire politics really wanting to heip, but change their tunes soon after.Mugabe will not only endanger his people because of the part he is taking but he will also endanger his country. Zimbabwe has suffered enough under this administration if the United Nations need to intervene then they should.Stop Talking and start Acting.

I am interested to hear what Greenlady420 thinks about the Iraq War, because that is what we are supposed to be doing right? Helping liberate them right? so if that is the stance that we are taking as a country then we should be doing the same in Africa. Oh yeah, I forgot that we are only over there to liberate oil not people!
In regards to Mugabe. To me, this stems back to European colonization of African people. Now they think that dividing and conquering (European ideals) are what they should be doing. To me this is a sort of taking on traits of the oppressor.
(This is the only way i could keep this short w/o leaving something long to read)-

A ship load of weapons was unloaded this week in Luanda, Angola, despite a dock worker strike against the offloading of the Chinese registered vessel. It was quietly offloaded over the weekend by Chinese labor. Look for these weapons to show up in Zimbabwe. Mugabe is a murdering criminal, 83 years old and cannot give up power.
