The little U.S. community of Barnes County, North Dakota forgot to show up and vote in its mayoral election on June 10th, including its candidates.
According to the current Mayor, usually a half a dozen out of the total population of 11 show up to vote in the elections. But this time no one showed up to vote. "Everybody has got a job and they're busy," said the current Mayor.
Luckily most of the candidates were running unopposed, or it could have caused quite a mess in Barnes County, North Dakota.

Maybe it's like my town where they don't spend much time advertising elections. They are in fact almost a secret. The loyal 5,000 they want to vote of course always show up and vote the way they want. I think this happens in lots of small towns.

If this happened more often, maybe the government would open it's collective eyes and see what America really wants. Then of course the courts would get involved and cancel out what we really want as a majority anyway.

There can't be very many issues to debate in a town that small. Unless there is a fight over who wants to be the town troubadour.
-
too busy? sadly, many americans (not just this town) feel that way on election day. but you know what? they're not going to be too busy to bitch and moan for the next 4 years when the "elected" officials aren't representing its constituents.

In an Ideal democracy, all the voters are fully educated on the issues.

This story is false... No town exists with 11 people. You can't call that a town. That's like 1-3 families...
1 guy can be the mayor, 1 the sherrif, 1 the treasurer...
It just doesn't make sense. Way to waste computer memory on this crap. -
Not to worry... someone behind the scenes will hack in to the system and give their votes to Mcain come election time.
-
Seriously? Someone could have gone to all...3 houses...and knocked on the door to tell them not to forget.

thats democracy at its best

Then why does this link from the Barnes County ND website show a 2000 population of over 11 thousand? Is this bs or what? Was it the entire county?

How do you not vote for your self? I'll move there with 12 people and make myself mayor.
