Amen, it sure is. It is the elixir of life and the sustenance of our souls. Looking at the picture of that man drinking clean running water for the FIRST TIME made me cry. So much we could do in this world if even half of the selfless goodness in these people were contagious and politicians and governments and multi nationals that only look out for their own aspirations and profits weren't in the picture to stop it.

There are very few places left on this planet where the underground water has not been contaminated by oil and coal, aluminum, etc. harvesting....In Mexico there is some of the best farm land and underground water on this planet......instead of helping finance wells....producing more food.....we hire thieves wearing badges to patrol with a license to steal and pillage the poor.....even stranger than this is the idea of a wall.....I hope some of you will try to step back and take a look at the big picture......could humans on the whole look any crazier....running backwards as fast as you can.......not all..... just most.......I think not.....how can a country that shined so brightly come to be known as someone who will help you to death...........Golden Ruler.....Will..........

So true, which is why stories like these need more exposure instead of getting voted off the page as fast as possible. How people can vote against bringing clean water (cleaner than the polluted water these people have become accustomed to that has made their children ill) to those in need along with the education to maintain it on their own is beyond my comprehension. This is why stories we don't see on MSNBC, CNN, and "Fox" don't get on Current.
Water availability in this world particularly now with climate change combining with population increases, waste, and pollution will be the most crucial sustainability issue we face in this century. And without organizations like Water 1st, Water Action, Water Partners International, Doctors Without Borders and others filled with people who care, what will people in these developing countries turn to? Corrupt governments? Multi-nationals looking to own them? And what vehicle will get these stories out to people to see what this world is now experiencing beyond the spoon fed BS they see on MSM?-

This is a good post, however, having worked hard all my life, having been on many job sites, and having become totally aware of how precious good clean drinking water is, I wonder why the guy is wasting some of it by the way he's drinking it...didn't someone think of bringing a cup, or cups...hellllooooo..!!! Or is this photo just for show...?
This is a very dedicated mission...many prejudiced people in this world don't give a rat's behind for the people in that region of the world. They'd just as soon see them die of thirst...one more step forward on a brave new journey...keep up the good work...-

any water treatment facility would need Blackwater mercenaries to guard it .
-
water is 75% of the earth, 75% of human flesh...we must respect water to respect ourselves.

Current, please find a way to install a filter feature on this site. Thank you.

Excellent, excellent, excellent Photo Journalism. I had no idea that conditions like this existed. Good job JanforGore for finding this story.

It sucks that a hand out of the worlds most abundant resource has to be given to these people ... sucks that this happens to them but it does. I cant feel to bad though ... i feel these people should stop procreating, they cant even sustain themselves which is causing them to die off and i truly find it sad.

"Jan", I can see from your other posts that you are truly committed to your beliefs, congratualtions!
I live in Nigeria, so have a little understanding of the men in power here. The water produced in the photo will be taken by the powerful and then sold to the poor. This is the "African" way, the powerful exploit the weak!
I actually work in the water filtration industry and am apalled that Nigerian villagers refuse to even filter their drinking water through easily accessed materials (charcoal/sand). They will drink the polluted water that kills their children and never see the need to improve the situation. They expect someone else, Chief/Gov't./Relief Agencies, etc. to help them, yet will never lift a hand to help themselves. This is the truth! -
Sorry, one more short comment. Look in the Ethiopian photo for the men assisting in this project. There is only one in the background, otherwise women and children are providing the labor. This is common in Africa. The men see themselves as above working, which is of course not suited to their exalted status in the village. They are busy drinking beer, smoking, and sitting around discussing their importance in the world. This is the truth!
