We need a hero

The world truly needs an actual leader. Some people falsely look upon Barack Obama as the second coming or some such Messiah. There are fanatics on all sides but what we really need is a leader. Whether that person is Obama or not the world is ready for a change of epic proportions.

  • Alright. I just need someone to explain to me, why is it a preference for Obama, suddenly makes all of us blind sheep. I just don't get it. I have never been a blind follower of anything, I try to be as objective as my own experience allows and I question everything. I resent being considered an idiot when I'm simply going with the candidate that fits what I hope for my own future. It doesn't make him my messiah. Fanatics on both sides, yes, but give some of us the benefit of the doubt.

  • Don't wait for someone to become a hero. Become a hero yourself, inspire others to make a difference.

We don't exactly need a leader, that just makes it harder to carry on when they are taken from us. If we can all step up and shoulder the burden together we can overcome them.

  • I don't need a leader, I am one.

  • I think "some" people just got into the whole OBAMA college thing and it sucked alot of people in who dont know or dont care about politcs. The republican canidate was also a bust which could have been a factor for the total obama chaos.

  • As long as humans rule humans this world will never find change significant enough to make a better difference.

Past dictates future one can see that the future of mankind is more of what happened in the past; and that should scare anyone.

The state of this world shows each country is giving a helping hand in brewing another WWIII. It's not a matter of if; its defiantly a matter of when.

  • things would be a lot better if i was president. no bullshit. just honest dealings. i can't say honest politics because then i'd be lying. i'm quite black and white with very little gray and stuff would get done.

  • I vote for me. Or you. How about all of us?

    Be the change.

  • First of all, don't trust anything you read in Newsweek. Secondly, expecting someone to come along and save the planet like some sort of superman is not very realistic. We ALL to start taking responsibility for what happens in the world. I've seen bumper stickers here in the states that read "Don't blame me I voted for Kerry". Now, I believe that is precisely the attitude that got us to where we are today, pointing the finger at others and saying it's all their fault. The truth of the matter is, we all need to be heroes and stand up for what we believe in and not wait for someone else to do it for us.

  • I don't regard Obama as a messiah or a hero. He is, however, very inspiring. My favorite quote of his is this: "I'm asking you to believe, not in my ability to bring about change in Washington . . . I'm asking you to believe in yours." This is about becoming the change you want to see and inspiring others to do the same. Or as lifestudent put it, don't wait for others to become a hero, become one yourself. This is a politician asking us to believe in ourselves. I certainly don't look at that as a bad thing.

  • In the words of Mariah Carey...ahem:

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in yooooooooooooou

    You're welcome.

  • Obama is a dangerous person. Dangerous to the freedom of the people and dangerous to the Constitution.
Hussein promises change and unity yet his own party is sharply divided. If he can't unite the Democrat party how can he bring the country together. I think this will continue due to the lies and agitation of liberals in this country. They would rather see a mushroom cloud over the U.S. or Americans dead than see ANY conservative or Republican platform prevail.
My father was my hero. The Constitution is mu guide. Obama is a joke.
    Paratus
  • FUCK!

onechance always refers back to his liberal bullit points which states.

If you dislike Obama your a racist

If you dont think global warming is going to melt the world in 10 years you hate the enviroment

If you dont think gays should be married your a homo-phobe

If you dont think its george bush's fault everytime you stump your toe or get a headache something must be wrong with you

gets some fucking new material just because your protected by all the other wackos on the site doesnt make anything you ever say relevant

my dads my hero too... just thought id say something positive

  • Newsweek is spinning again. I have not heard from any Obama supporter that they think of him as a hero or as a messiah. Only, as some have said herein, that he is intellectually capable, a brilliant orator, has a history of working for 'the people', has an honest approach and is refreshingly different than most of his competitors. A hero, as we all know is one who has sacrificed his or her life or well being for the greater good or well being of others. We dub many here in the USof A as heroic who are not deserving of the title. Those who are/were heroic; were trying to save lives on 9/11, are trying to do right in Iraq, and are trying to bring this Executive branch to accountability. Newsweek is weak on heroics.

  • What happened the last time we had a hero? That asshole led us into a war like sheep to the slaughter.
We don't need another hero, and I'd have to agree with clayjj that this isn't news because it's not new.
    Dmitri_Molotov
  • Vote for Obama!
    VoyagerFilms
  • A lot of dissenters either didn't read past the title or didn't comprehend what they read. Many seem to have gotten caught up in the title and missed the point.

At first I thought the title may have been a mistake because it misled some but then I saw who got it and who didn't and it was all good at that point.

Take another look at the title and then the summary and see if your points still make sense.

  • Asking for a 'hero' is just asking for some macho, dumb president like Bush to take over again. Let me guess, you're a McCain guy?
  • dimitri and poison you are both idiots if you believe what you say.
dimitri, you just refered to george w bush as a hero. george w bush...........really? A hero is sombody that saves people.
poison you just think a hero is some cocky a--hole.
both of you need to buy a dictionary. or spiderman 1 2 or 3, or iron man, or superman, or anything else that would make you sound less like idiots. as for the other racists and homophobes. read the constitution. seperation of church and state. and besides gay people getting married will not encroach on your freedom (Sorry, encroach means devalue, disturb or harm in any way) This country was built on the idea that We dont care who you are, what god you believe in, or what you like to do with your time. as long as you dont harm or steal from anybody. Sorry to get preachy but im really tired of this right wing bitching. You people were on top for so long and now look at things. now somebody finally brings a little hope to the people and you people are terrafied. as you should be. change is coming. any you are either going to change with the times or end up like the dinosaurs. then your hero george w bush will burn you to run his hummer.

  • The term hero is highly subjective.

  • hmmm this article seems bitter to me!

  • look no further everyone your hero is here.
    fuckbush
  • thanks cursed,

conservatives need to realize they have been in charge for eight years, and they have done NOTHING. Bush's grand economic plan has finally shown itself for the farce it is, his war in iraq has done more to endanger us and recruit terrorism than bin shitface ever could have, his energy policy hasn't worked and has left us very vulnerable.

conservatives should do us all a favor and question themselves for a few days and then get back to their normal awesome lives.

  • We sure need more than one leader... We each can learn and lead... and must to protect our earth and earthlings! Obama may be our next figurehead.. with the rest of us utilizing our strengths to help real positive regeneration to occur... We must hold ourselves and our leaders accountable... And we, must provide support for positive change... The buck stops here... with us. We have to learn, listen, and teach each other well!

  • The next five to ten years are going to be an EXTREME challenge to whoever is in office as the leader of the free world:

-Very REAL challenge with China's and India's (among other nation) rise and their increased consumption of limited oil and food supplies.

-Very REAL problems in the Middle East with a tyranical Iran and further Israel issues. These are very delicate matters. Iraq is still in turmoil, our fault, and we are going to have to remedy this situation before we prematurely leave.

-Globalization is REAL and leading to a situation where the rest of the world CAN and WILL compete with not only our workforce but also our thinkers.

The next five years and beyond, with regard to US policy, will be marked by global forces which the next president must come to terms with.

I like Obama. Obama stands for great values and has the ability to inspire apathetic minds. In calmer times I feel he'd be a great president, but not right now, not today.

And I do NOT agree McCain is a warmonger. He's seen the ugly side of war, spent five years in Hanoi, two of which were in isolation. I think he'd be quicker to AVOID a major conflict, but also remains realistic with regards to the growing powers who are Hu Jintao, Putin (yes, Putin) and Ahmadinejad.

I could be wrong, but that's just what I think.

  • Don't you all see, we don't need some rich politician. They don't give a s*** about us[We the people].

F*** Bush, Obama, McCain all those bastards on the hill.

  • Newsweak is so tired. Like the rest of commercial media, they play to the uneducated set. People who lead responsible lives don't need heroes.
As for Obama being the one, please. His young worshipers may think so, but they're spellbound by the shallow rhetoric. In three minutes, they were copying a media smear campaign of name calling and childish insults. And they don't seem to have even learned the art of adult conversation.
Mainstream media has got some nerve talking about heroes after driving out the most accomplished and knowledgeable democrats of our time.

  • We are the heroes, every single one of us, exersizing our rights as citizens of this so called "democracy".

  • Heroes today are few and far away, however if I must accept the lesser of two evils, Always bet on the black. Obama speaks to Americans with reality and serious knowledge of current events, while mccain sounds like an alhziemer victim. When someone has to constantly lean over to mccain and whisper in his ear the correct pronounciation or actual facts means we are eventually going to witness a wet stain growing below his belt buckle. I suspect depends are on his shopping list always. Obama is not the saviour we hope for, however I reinerate, "Where is John Wilkes Booth or Lee Harvey Oswald when we need them?"

  • "WE are the ones we've been waiting for."--Barack Obama in a speech on Feb 5 '08.

I think it's strange when the media tries to dis Michelle, because I have never been more proud of my country.

If anyone else wants to find a different hero, then by all means, but I'm gonna stick with Barack.

  • i'm almost positive a true leader would encourage everyone to take charge of their own lives and chase after their own dreams and change their own wrongs, sounds cliche but a mass of mindless drones following even the best of leaders is dangerous, let alone a bad one. like little puppies following their owners, no real drive or reason to follow, only a sense of admiration and a need to flow with the status quo. a leader is best when they actually just facilitate instead of forcing anyone to do something, the people have to lead their own lives and a good leader would see fit to help everyone realize they can do it on their own, with maybe a little push in the right direction. we can't expect one person to save the world for everyone, but it doesn't mean that one person can't help.
