In this sober examination of the challenges that face tomorrow's investors, I got this guy whose wife I know to eat a bug on camera. Twice. Then I used the first take.

I put a lot of post work into this video -- hopefully you don't notice any of it! We shot on 1080i (with Pallavi's HVX200), but since it was handheld work with an unfamiliar camera while walking backwards, the raw footage was badly framed, out of focus, and poorly lit. For the conversion to NTSC DV, I used Final Cut's 'SmoothCam' plugin to counter my shaky handheld technique (you can see a bit of a telltale Jell-O wobble on the buildings), then keyframed a drastic crop around Mike for better framing and following. I also used After Effects to mask a 'power window' around Mike, to brighten him up and pop him out of the background, and a sharpen mask to get him into proper focus (and to put the background slightly out of focus). A lot of this is lost in the transition to FLV, natch, but in my opinion it's a drastic change and an effective salvage job. The look I was going for was a typical 'hard-hitting' financial institution ad.
The mealworm is real -- we bought some chocolate-covered insects at a specialty boutique and melted the chocolate off. There was another take with a cricket, which looked more insecty, but the improv wasn't as tight.
Your thoughts are appreciated. -
Uh...whatever to all of that you said up there. It looks great. Looks real professional and the terribly crunchy worm was a...nice surprise.

Thanks Neghie!
