A great music piece/composition on the dolphin slaughters in Taiji, Japan... I warn you though, there is particularly nasty footage towards the end of this video (not for the faint hearted)... But really hard-hitting, painful to watch, and it drives the message home and hopefully one day these atrocities will be outlawed and these fiends made to pay! :(

BlueVoice has just learned that the mercury testing we did on dolphin eaters in Taiji, Japan has led to a major Japanese magazine article exposing the levels of mercury in people who eat dolphin in Taiji. the conclusion of the article was that Taiji is another Minamata and that everyone should be tested. This is causing major concern among the dolphin hunters as publication in Japan will cut the market for dolphin meat. This is a major step in ending the slaughter of dolphins!!!!!!!

I hope those stupid fishermen ALL die of massive poisoning - not only would I not care that they're dead I would leave them in the sea to be eaten by the dolphins....................
Sorry - just speaking my mind forgot to censor. I meant to say "I hope the dolphin and fishermen can come to natural, peaceful, and unanimous agreement"

Thanks JoQ, you're welcome! :)
They are beautiful. Ask any surfer who's shared a wave with one, or looked through the glassy wall of a barreling wave and seen a dolphin gliding alongside them... amazing! Do check out the petitions yeah, the Visual Petition is being presented to the IWC (International Whaling Commission) in Chile at the moment, but they still welcome new submissions!

I am not going to watch the video, because it I know what Japan is doing is horrible, but thanks for posting it and raising people's awareness of it.
It seems there are a whole lot of things we have to boycott to bring about a more civilized race.

No problem mate, you're welcome! :) The videos are grim yeah, very upsetting, and not an image you'll easily forget... so I don't blame you for not watching them... But I guess shock tactics are sometimes the best way to get a message across... it's these images from Hardy Jones and others that are shocking people into action... and I think that's great! :)

Dolphins are so intelligent and beautiful that it is hard to watch their slaughter. Last summer I was walking on the boardwalk at Ocean City, MD with my granddaughter and a school of dolphins went by playing in the waves. It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. We watched until they were gone, just mesmerized by their beauty and playfulness. Thanks for adding this. I will check out the petitions, too.

Yeah BlueVoice.org is the source of the first video. Hardy Jones' work in this area is really great! The fishermen in Taiji must really hate him, he's very brave to have gotten the footage he has! There's more of his video's on his YouTube page worth checking out too...

It's great to see these organizations being so active for this cause. http://www.bluevoice.org is another I am familiar with.
And I've seen these photos and videos so many times and it is still as emotionally and physically intense as the first time I saw them. I'll never be able to get them out of my head.

"Those videos are so incredibly painful to watch." - Yeah they are, I felt physically ill and upset watching them the first time, that's why I had to post this. As horrible as it is, people need to know about it, spread the word, and hopefully something can be done about it!
These guys are doing a great job of campaigning against it...

Those videos are so incredibly painful to watch.
Some of the younger dolphins are spared from the slaughter and sold to aquariums or dolphin swim facilities. However, many die soon after from the stress of separation and capture. Those that survive still have a greatly reduced lifespan in captivity.
If you want to see dolphins, go see them in the wild on a dolphin watch instead of an aquarium or dolphin swim facility. The experience of seeing a whole pod in their natural environment is much better than seeing them in captivity. And you won't be spending money that supports activities like this.

The dolphin hunts are horrifying to see. And they are extremely cruel, especially in light of dolphins extremely high intelligence and complex social and family bonds.
What makes this practice even more unneccesary is that the dolphin meat is sold in grocery stores and used in school lunch programs. That meat is highly contaminated with mercury, pcb's and lots of other nasty chemicals we put in the ocean. These chemicals alone threaten the future survival of dolphins.

Oh my god! I just watched the video from their website. How horrifying! Quite interesting, though, that media attention on this issue causes the fisherman to be more secretive about their actions.

Exactly, the more media attention the better!
"Although it is legal, the fishermen are now very secretive about what they do, because of the increasing media attention... Knowing that their days could be numbered if the world continues to witness these atrocities and revolts against what they are doing"
