Sold his soul to the company store. As if they have found a solution for the storage problem.
FAT CHANCE.
FAT CHANCE.

I'm glad someones looking into alternative resources but I dont think that nuclear power is quite safe enough yet to become a main source of energy for America. Think of the waste!

We are never going to explore alternative energies because it's "the right thing to do". The last thing we need is a third term for Bush & Co.

If he's got a good solution for the waste, I'm all for it.

Geez, doesn't he looks like father time!!

IF THE FRENCH CAN DO IT WHY CANT WE?
-
Like the saying " if all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you?" We cant keep going around and competing with others to prove who's better. That mentality only continues the copycat effect. Then again, maybe it might look nice to see a bunch of nuclear facilities on our coastlines and across the nation polluting our land and air!! Oooooh i can't wait!

Dude, the only pollution is the radioactive waste, which is kept in containers designed to withstand bomb strikes. Still, it might not be a bad idea to add some traces of iodine to the water supply if you live near a deposit. Also, I think it would be a good idea to try to pass a law so that you can see where any radioactive waste is kept on an online map, like that one that shows where sex offenders live (forget the name).

Reading the nuclear doctrine that was established in the 1950s when we started this program, by now we should have made Stage II reactors that use the spent fuel as their prime fuel, to clean up the 100-year waste and make it "safe" 10-year waste. I am not seeing these reactors, and NC just gave the OK for Sherron Harris' second reactor to be built.
dmitri -- be cautious of your assumptions. in 2004 the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) published publicly in their annual reports, that they had filled their underground bomb-proof storage tank and were putting spent rods into concrete casks and storing them above ground, in storage sheds until the Yuka Mountain project is finished to store all the waste permanently.
I don't think Nuclear power is the end all that is was proposed to be; why can't we be happy to accept power from the wind and sun? -
The wind and sun are fickle, and don't give as much power.
Yes, I don't see why nobody has built any stage II reactors (aside from having to deal with the most dangerous element on earth). Also, I bet the nuclear energy association had a bone to pick with TVA after that.-

Waste is only one thing wrong with this old energy design. The cost to build is another. Safety issues another. Please read the site provided to see all the problems with this idea.
http://www.citizen.org/cmep/energy_enviro_nuclear/nucle...
This so called leadership has already given $13B in loan protection to some of the largest BIG CAP companies in the country. That wouldn't build two
plants with this old energy design. This is money
that could be spent on alternatives. Add to that
they don't pay the money back and they have no
liability at all. They don't need loan protection and
they should not be given limited liability. That would
stop this old energy thinking in it's tracks.-
