A long-sought truce between Israel and Gaza militants went into effect early Thursday, with the aim of halting militant attacks and a bruising Israeli blockade that have made life unbearable for people living on both sides of the border.
Peace begins today....For the last month, several people and myself have been visualizing Peace for Israel and Palestine and I recently made that public in one of my posts here before the truce was even whispered. Whether or not our prayers and meditations had any bearing, we'll never know, but we all do believe that a group consciousness is a very powerful energy.
Israel is also talking with Lebanon and Syria on coming to peaceful terms. We hope and pray that all countries governments are truly going to try their best. We all have to remember we are human and we all want to have peace one way or another. At least 99% of us.
Peace begins today...what will tomorrow bring?

that 1% is what jacks up everything.... sighs.... think positive!
-
Lets see how long this lasts before Israel gets someone to fire a rocket from gaza into Israel and then they will pile in with everything they have got. You can just see it coming.
-
I'm counting the hours, but let's hope for the best. Nice picture LOL
Interesting that this is an Egypt brokered deal -
I hope it does last, I think a positive attitude from the media is well needed here.
-
I wasnt talking about lack of communication, i wouldnt put it past israel to stage the whole thing , would you?

All Israels neighbors need to be involved and committed to the same goal with the main focus being the welfare, safety and future of the Palistinians.
Shalom Salam Peace -
I do hope it does last Tracey but as far as Israel and her treatment and atitude to the Palestinians is concerned i am very much a sceptic. Israel at the highest levels did not want this truce but was coerced into it by the US So the masses would believe Israel to be seeking peace.
All i can say is watch this space.-

CNN Update: 4hours into the Peace...field correspondent in Israel watching the boarder with the Israeli military shed a negative view as well as reporting on Israeli people and children not positive about this...the in-studio anchor tried balancing that with some good points but not enough. The field correspondent only mentioned the Israeli children being afraid and nothing about Palestinian children that are equally affected.
Maybe some emails to these news people???-

Olmart should know! He should know he's about to be indicted for felonious activities. Unless he pulls a Berlosconi and derails the process.

OMG first let me apologize for a comment I made previously sarcastically about Jews being the devils and see their horns in a picture.....that was only in frustration with trying to keep defending Israel and Jews...over and over again!!!
So sorry if it sounded like I didn't like Jews...I am one..so I do like many of them...
That said:
I am not an expert or even knowledgeable about these issues but it seems Israel has been living in peace with its other neighbors like Egypt and others...is that true? There seems to be a few radical instigators on both sides of the Palestinian and Israeli border but the majority want peace as you say WPTV.
I don't know if it is 99% or 75%, but the majority.-

Hey Carolyn, no one lives in peace with Israel!!!! I wish someone did, but the truth is Israel is like ths present administration in America and can't be trusted!!!

De-escalation
Israel and Hezbollah close to prisoner swap -
I REALLY DO HOPE THAT PALESTINE AND ISRAEL DO COME IN TO GOOD TERMS WITH EACH OTHER. YOU KNOW, ITS UNFORTUNATE THAT THERE HAS BEEN SO MUCH CONFLICT BETWEE THESE TWO CONTRIES. BUT IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO RELIGION, THE CENTURY BATTLE OF MUSLIMS VS. JEWS. THIS HAS TO SUCK FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE. AND TO ME, THIS SHOULDN'T EVER CONFLICT WITH THE WAY PEOPLE ARE. I MEAN BASICALLY PEOPLE AS THEY ARE. HOW CAN PEOPLE LET RELIGION BASE THIS VERY SENTIMENT?

Israel and Palestine has been at it forever..there is no one country to blame, it is both governments to blame. I myself believe Israel could have settled this a long time ago and not kill a fly with a 357 magnum. There were other ways to deal with the criminal element on the "other side". Both sides caused misery for everyone. And in my opinion, it was outweighed tremendously. What we must do now is put water under the bridge, accept what is happening and encourage peace. Not bring up old ghosts from the past. It's the same with a good marriage, you don't keep bringing up each others screw-ups..we're not perfect. We are all human and have a right to live on this planet, and we have a right to speaking our peace without being called names or being harassed and in some cases our lives at danger for speaking up.

What a blessing for Israel! They are talking with bording countries. Although this step was hard to hard and is a large one I am hopeful and cannot wait for what lies for the country of Israel. The beautiful country deserves compromise and I am anxious to see what lies and comes from this.
-
Peace even for a couple days is good. Lets hope they can keep it going long enough to make it permanent.

I don't like saying this, since it is just my opinion and not backed by facts. It seems to me that Israel has bought into the regional mentality. That is to say the only way to settle things is, every time you shoot one of mine, I'll shoot ten of yours. All of these countries act like the only way to settle any problem is with a bullet. Sadly, we are not setting much of an example.

There's a lot of misinformation here, I'll just mention the obvious, in regards to clubbingabout and theories that the US put Israel up to this. The US is trying to convince Israel not to make peace. The US wants to isolate terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, and rogue states like Syria that are backed by Iran. ISRAEL HAS BEEN PURSUING PEACE WITH ALL THREE GROUPS AGAINST AMERICAN WISHES. That's why the Germans are handling talks with Hezbollah, the Egyptians handled the talks with Hamas, and the Turks are handling talks with Syria. If people read more than headlines, they'd have a better understanding of the situation. Consequently, kowtowing to public opinion has never been Israel's style. They know that people are going to be against them no matter what, they wouldn't initiate a peace treaty as a means of public relations if they intended to go in their and fight. They would simply go in there and fight.
-
I would love believe this. Going on track record this not the case. As history has proven, the people in this region have been killing each other for millinea. Please correct if I am wrong.

I love how ignorant people can be. Who dont know anything about a country other than what the watch on the t.v without ever being there or talking to the people who are actually there try to blog like they are a scholar about the area.
Long Live Israel -
This should be a hot topic for the upcoming elections, the candidate who is going to take the most initiative to calm the violence going on in the Middle East while keeping Israel and Hamas on good terms. There seems to be no end to the debate over Gaza and the West Bank, but if there is cooperation then diplomacy has not been lost and a brighter future is at hand

so long as there is oppression there will never be peace..
this truce is temporary make no mistake about it.. it will either dissolve at the hands of a premature israeli campaign of aggression or an opportunistic suicide bomber.. -
Let's hope the peace lasts. It never seems to... but here's a little hoping.
-
I refuse to be negative about this. When I seen it on cnn i about cried. I was just so happy .. even if it is for a few days to a few months of peace. I know someone heard my prayers, and everyone elses prayers. this is just great ..thanks for sharing this world peace..
-
even tho im not religous i pray this works out for the the peaceful people caught in this mess, on both sides
-

tomorrow, today..the second day brings peace again. One day at a time is all we need for peace. I pray some deranged person does not hurl a missile over to Israel....I pray some disinformation or some political motive from the Israeli government does not send their air force over and bomb many innocents to kill one person....I pray both sides continue to hold out for peace and to let all live in peace.
Amen-
