Well, I'm in So Cal, maybe we can have Current start a new (TOTALLY OPTIONAL) zipcode input place on the site, in the interest of meetups.

Had a meet up recently in the UK, but LA's a bit of a schlep!

I've actually been thinking about this...it IS a good idea, as long as there isn't too much spinning of the wheels...

Someone, or a small group, with time and energy would have to take the initiative to organize and get the ball rolling...maybe there would or should be multiple sites and multiple tasks in different localities, so no one has to go too far...otherwise, you'd have to do it by creative conferencing...If funded, (grant?) this could be great...

Northern California. As much as I dislike it, I wouldn't mind going out into the meat world for some political work. Keep in mind that I am not nearly as eloquent, cool, or likable as I am on the Net, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

maybe something similar to the MakerFaire event but for Current. We could screen pods, speak to filmmakers, have discussions on fair use and reporting, while also helping and encouraging people to make media on issues that matter. just an idea......tom

I'm currently in SF but travel back and forth between here and SD...I would definitely be down to get together and make some real shit happen

By the way, I wrote to "feedback@current.com" as well to see if they'd be into putting an optional thing on the site to get this rolling...

I'm down for a San Francisco meet-up. Seems there's a good number of people in the Bay on Current.

we actually will be having a meet & greet in sacramento at the end of August with NextGen Film Fest. if you check current.com/outreach we'll post the info as it comes up. otherwise, if you guys wanna organize one, we can come out and hang, too. sacramento's not so far from sf. :)

Sounds like a great idea! If we do not make the effort to move in the right direction, we can't blame anyone but ourselves if things go to shit.

I think I'm one of the few people on this site thats from the South.

discussing issues on the internet doesn't get anything done. if this happens people who are really interested in changing the system might be able to pull each others ideas together and figure out something that we can actually do !

kDrew Productions is looking for independent documentary filmmakers from AROUND THE WORLD to take part in a no budget, feature length documentary whose goal is to take on the relevance of BIG MEDIA, and expose it for what it is… an overpriced method of distraction.

I would like to invite you to send me your idea or clip of (in your opinion) the most important news story of 2008 that was:

(a) not covered, or

(b) covered poorly or with such bias that it became irrelevant. A complete 3-7 minute in-dept report is what I am looking for; that being said... even small personal clips are welcome. Everything can be a piece of the puzzle.

This is a no pay job. However, I have a number of options for festival and internet distribution. You MUST own the rights to EVERYTHING you submit… be it idea or clip.

Upon acceptance, contracts will follow with all of the appropriate legal language. There are already a number of producers on board, and, while the process is just beginning, it will start to take form soon.

I hope to have several clips in my hands so I can begin editing this summer to have submissions ready for the 2009 festival season. If you are passionate about your story, and would like to see it take part in this documentary, please contact me.

BIG MEDIA has failed us and lied to us too often. Help make this critique as powerful as possible. Thank you.

I'm actually from the south also. But your right, we are few and far between on this sight. As bad as I hate to say it, most people in the south do not seem interested in the bigger picture. I am amazed how few people have even heard of Current here. I'm a walking billboard though, maybe we can wake some folks up!

for those of us who like to argue and bicker online, a meet-up might be a good opportunity to get into an actual fist fight.

I think Current does stuff like this don't they? They go to a lot of film festivals around the country... I know they were at CineVegas this week.

It's a very good idea to meet up up to be able to do more advanced pods and VCAM's since we could pool our resources to make videos we couldn't otherwise on a variety of subjects

Since Current is in San Francisco it would be the logical place to meet.

i wouldn't mind meeting some people on here but there are some that it would be best if i did not meet

Any other Currenteers in Switzerland besides myself and my husband? We are poor, and even going to Zurich or Bern or Basel or wherever else in Switzerland for a meet up would be very taxing on our tiny income, but doable. Beyond Switzerland, it would be too expensive for our means.

Currently, I rule from my throne in New York. Any willing to grovel for an audience is welcome to...

Don't think people would meet on the reservations and rural communities I usually travel to, but I do get to LA a few times a year and could do a meetup there.

either we here @ current can set up meetup groups for everyone, if you nominate your city, or you can do it yourselves in the cities you are in...? either way we'll be happy to support the group by sending out schwag and what have you!

we're in vegas this week, were in nyc and dc last week, will be in sf early july, LA & palm springs end of july, oxford and london end of july and so forth.
