This was an interesting article I ran across. The July issue of Italian Vogue will feature all black models!!! As a an African American female of the darker hue, I am fascinated and delighted by this magazine's choice to run this. What do you think???

BLACK is always BEAUTIFUL!! To my multi-racial sisters, I love you all!!! Keep your head to the sky!!
All women are QUEENS!!-

I think it is a fantastic decision. I'll take diversity where I can get it.

I am totally geeked about it! My hope is that young females of color will know that they are beautiful just as they are. Women are precious, and should be valued equally. It is wonderful that they can have something in their hands to affirm (not confirm) it. Kudos to Italian Vogue! It would be nice if the American Vogue will follow suit...We'll see.

I know this may seem rather small to some, but it really is a big deal. There is a lack support in the area of black beauty. I hope they go on to do one for each nationality, until all women find an image of themselves they can identify with.
-
Perhaps they will also spread out to do a full figure fashion issue as well, LOL. That would be AWESOME!!
-
Now if we can just get magazines to feature smart people... or beauties who make a difference. Or uglies who make a difference.
-
LOL. Point taken DB.
-
I love this! It's pretty dumb that it hasn't been done before, especially because there are so many gorgeous black models! I'd like to see more asian and middle eastern models, too.
Hooray for Diversity! -
You know I honestly believe that if we vote with our dollars, the tide can change in that regard. YES WE CAN, lol.

Here a couple of articles they say some interesting things on the issue of modeling and diversity. The articles seem to say that just because the did it in one issue doesn't mean there has been progress. I kinda agree. Its like having the token. If there were diverse issues all the time that would show progress. However, it is nice of them to highlight that there are beautiful black models (which the rest of us already knew).

It's so refreshing to see something like this in an industry that is staid and formulaic more often than not. Bravo Steven (Meisel, the photographer). I'm glad to see someone is doing their job.

I wonder who will be in the issue. If they're really progressive, they might also try to dismantle the notion that only mixed/red/fair-skinned Blacks make the cut to being beautiful. I'm looking forward to see someone that's chocolate or coconut colored in the shots.
Either way though, at least it's another avenue of beauty. :) -
I think they should just have more diversity of ethnicities in the magazine. It make more sense then having an all black issue where they would have less sales because of racism. People wouldn't stop buying the magazine if they were equal numbers of black women to white women.
-
yup! this is the garbage that makes me change the channel when it reaches the T.V.

Mother Nature or God or the Magic Pumpkin created so much beauty in the human body and in nature. It is shortsighted to focus on one type of beauty.
I'm glad they made the step forward.-

Get your walk on sister girls. Idiots like Purplepanda0o0o and Betico are just jealous haters.. I guess it doesn't mean anything to them when some American magazine forbid the use of anything but white models.
Get your walk on sister girls.-

This might be dealing with racism (which is already questionable), how about objectification of women? Sexism is as big a problem, yet it's ironic to see so many women welcome this as if it's helping feminism.
Fashion kills.

For all the HATERS responding to this article, JUST STOP IT, LOL. This editor made a conscious choice to do something different in a world where he saw change was needed and was able to make change. What have you done in your world to do the same? EACH ONE REACH ONE. He can't be expected to change the world with one article, but every little step helps. I appreciate his contribution. It's only one magazine issue, but it's one that didn't exist before, and thats a good thing!!
-
this is very interesting and outstanding job to the people at Vogue
-
I love the idea of portraying a diverse sense of beauty via mass advertisement, but labeling the magazine, "A Black Issue," come on. Treat this issue as you would any other, not some unprecedented "special edition."

Personally, I think it is kind of sad that this is considered a big deal. Not because the diversity isn't great, but just that race is still recognized enough to separate us...or in this case acknowledge the fact that all black women were used. But since it still does exist, good for Vogue!
-
Thats amazing! Black women have a specific beauty that could never be synthetic and it is impossible to replicate. Yay for Italian Vogue! It's time we start embracing and appreciating diverse beauty!

I can't help but think that we'll have come a long way as a civilization when this is NOT news, and viewed as something completely normal.

Thumbs up, but can we feed them already?

Why such a surprise? afro-Centric women have always been beautiful and always will be, just because they're being featured in a magazine run by a bunch of pretentious airheads doesn't mean that ''Afro -centric women are now beautiful''. Most white women want tans, thicker lips, wider hips, smaller wastes and a proportionate glutomous maximus, Latina women Afro Centric women are born with these evocative qualities and are envied by pasty white women with sun deprived bodies.... Holla Back! Oh excuse me, Holler Back LOL

WOW where can i get a copy???
-
I don't think there should be seperate issues for one or the other - they should be mixed ALWAYS with no special attention poured onto one or the other. THAT is equality.
-
They need to. Italians are part-Black anyhow.
-
Love it! I've been waiting for this for years..
-
A magazine dedicated to one particular race of people is racist in itself, is it not? I'm all for diversity but this seems rather exclusive. Emphasize the beauty of people, not the color of their skin.
