President Bush urged Congress on Wednesday to end a federal ban on offshore oil drilling and open a portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil exploration, asserting that those steps and others would lower gasoline prices and “strengthen our national security.”

every analyst (pro or con of this move) agrees that this wouldn't reduce the cost of oil for 5-10 years for the consumer. on top of which it wouldn't last for very long and wouldn't significantly reduce our dependence on foreign oil. that's people on both sides. by that time we should have heavily invested in alternatives.
f'ing politicians and their f'ing campaign tactics, not to mention, big oil is a huge contributor to our government and many in the government have huge investments in oil as well. serving the people...?
p.s. apparently the oil company is only using around 20% of what it could currently be drilling legally, so...why the push for this? -
Right... what we need is MORE oil..
Idiot. -
This was their plan all along... drive up oil prices... make people want their cheap gas and get the support they need to drill in the Arctic and off shore. Congress will probably roll over and say yes to a "temporary" lift of the ban.

I think this should come to a statewide popular vote. That way Texas can have all the black gold it wants, while California can remain eco-friendly.

I suggest a ban on all travel for Congressmen, Representatives, Presidents, and other Governmental leeches. Let them stay home, thus reducing, fuel usage, and gas emissions from D.C.
It is the "Green", thing to do! -
the bird covered in oil says it all.... he's like "sh*t not again!!
