Russia warns against using force on Iran

Russia's foriegn minister Sergey Lavrov has warned about using force against Iran over the nuclear issue (which Iran says is peaceful).

He added:
"We have been repeatedly asking our American and Israeli colleagues, who insist that Iran is certainly involved in making an atomic bomb, to provide factual information about this matter. So far we have seen none.”


This comes as The New York Times reported that the Israeli military had done a rehearsal for a potential attack on Iran.



All this happening as a plan is gaining support again to build a international nuclear facility in Iran which would fulfill Iran's right to enriching uranium yet prevent the nuclear substance from being diverted for military use -(the plan was rejected by Bush admin 3 years ago even though the idea was advanced by Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists).

  • Russia is like the big bully that just isn't clever enough so they make rash threats.

    They're very concerned with appearing strong and intelligent, understandably, but this mindset always has a way of crumbling under pressure.

  • Putin is plenty clever. He has insured his power base in a major political coup in his own country. He has his own oil, his own nukes, and he is not afraid of anything. Any threat from Moscow should not be taken lightly.

    Putin has shown the bears claws when they tied to claim the North Pole as Russia’s by putting a flag on the bottom of the ocean at the North Pole. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

    Russia, N.Korea and China were ranked higher threats than Iraq by the the CIA back in 2000. WTF happened??

  • Every country has a right to nuclear energy. S**T, just look at how many plants we have and yet we deem it wrong for another country to do so based on the "belief" that its for war purposes. We're being hypocritical.

  • It takes Putin & Co. to stop the Bush cronies because our own Congress can't do it. I'm actually thankful that he's standing up in the way of Iran. I just hope he doesn't try to physically push out the US troops that are already in the Middle East. That would be a mess.

  • You just pissed off 1/6th of the Earth's surface petarro. Russia is still one of the top superpowers in the world, and as Soviet Russia they accomplished a few things like the AK-47, sending the first man in space, extremely advanced nuclear submarines, great works of art and music, and struggling in a contest with the US for the most powerful nation in the world 40 years straight. Bunch of idiots huh? Clueless asshole...

  • It does seem strange to me that the UN is desparately looking for a way to stop Iran and there is Russia supplying them with everything - I guess they have too many nukes to mention that.

  • This is a powder keg soaked in kerosene. Iran is allied with Russia and China, both of which are big players on the international scene and very capable of responding with lethal force. I still have yet to see any intelligence at all that says their nuclear program in anything but domestic. Furthermore, do we even have a legit reason from shifting our attention from our so called objective of fighting 'evil'. This is not a comic book, or a video game. There is no such thing as villains or heros in this situation. Especially considering the current climate in the Middle East any military action by US or Israel could be the trigger to a global, sustained conflict. Also, considering the state of our military and our so called leaders, we could see ourselves take a pounding worse than we did in Vietnam. And what is more frightening is that there is a possibility we could see it on our own soil. Far fetched? Tell that to New Orleans and ask them how they feel about our ability to respond in times of crisis. We all need to take a deep breath realize the consequences of what we are about to do.

  • I'm sick of Israel getting preferential treatment. The U.S. gives Israel 14 billion dollars a year and all the military weapons they need at the expense of the American tax payer. APAC is lobbying in Washington and buying all the Congressman and Senators that are willing to sale their souls just to get re-elected even if it means promoting a foreign policy that permitts the Isrealis to kill innocent people in Palestine. Israel is getting ready to bomb Iran and the American people will be drown into another war but this won't be favorable for us. APAC has been stealing military secret from the U.S. and got caught . Why are they permitted to have such high level security clearence? Because everyone one in Washington is on the take. APAC is a group of murders and thieves

  • I know we are a superpower on the way down, but still Russia doesn't really scare me. What are we going to have another 40 year passive aggressive relationship? I don't think Vietnam or Afghanistan is going to let us indirectly battle it out on their turf again.
