"Air India 182" recreates the fateful events leading to the tragedy of the Air India flight 182 bombing in 1985 killing all 329 passengers aboard -- many of whom were Canadian -- en route to Dehli via London after departing from Vancouver and Montreal. Filmmaker Sturla Gunnarsson explores the details leading up to the terrorist bombing of Air India 182 featuring on camera narratives from families and individuals who lost relatives aboard the flight, and from key Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigators. Gunnarsson sourced court documents, de-classified CSIS reports and inquiry transcripts, and shot the film on location in Vancouver, Duncan, Toronto, Cork and London. The Air India 182 tragedy is regarded as the largest terrorist incident in Canadian history, and a 20-year trial against Sikh separatists Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri accused of the bomb attack is estimated to have cost $130 million (Canadian dollars). Additional legal trials that have precipated from the Air India bombing continue to this day.
"Air India 182" premieres on Sunday June 22, 2008 at 9pm on CBC-TV, and has a repeat broadcast on Sunday June 29, 2008 at 10pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld.
