"The reality that few people appreciate is that improving fuel efficiency from 10 to 20mpg is actually a more significant saving than improving from 25mpg to 50mpg for the same distance of driving..."

Europe has been describing efficiency in liters per 100km as long as I can remember.

If the average range of a car is 200 miles par tank of fuel.
Then you want a smaller tank.
10 mpg = 0.10 gpm = 20 gp200m
20 mpg = 0.05 gpm = 10 gp200m
25 mpg = 0.04 gpm = 8 gp200m
50 mpg = 0.02 gpm = 4 gp200m
100 mpg = 0.01 gpm = 2 gp200m
I've even done some of the math for you.-
