An Iranian newspaper has been banned after carrying articles critical of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's economic policies.
The newspaper was launched 18 months ago and was seen as being close to Tehran Mayor Mohammed Qalibaf, a conservative who analysts say is a potential rival of Ahmadinejad in next year's presidential election.
Tehran Emrooz's publisher was summoned to a court on Sunday to answer charges of "printing pictures and editorial material insulting to the president and propagation of lies with the intention of agitating public opinion"

Nuke him.
You say nuke him? Choose your city. Not over there. But in the USA. -
Well, we say we believe in freedom of speech... It sounds a lot like the restraints on us by the lack of facts from our corporate owned media? Right?
-
In response to those who believe that the countries of the West have better civil liberties: you don't.
Western countries' governments have been issuing media gagging orders for years over sensitive issues. Whilst no explicit banning of a media entity has taken place in the West, this is the first case like this that I've heard of from Iran.
Freedom of speech is far more limited in the West than you may believe. -
Sounds familiar to what is going on the US.
How many images of returning warriors in flag draped coffins appear in the US media?
How many references to the thousands of warriors whose lives are ruined forever with crippling injuries to mind and body?
How many times has OReilly lied to the US public through the vile Fox news?
I could go on but nothing changes. and we have Bush and Co to thank for all this.-

Could you imagine what it would be like if we had a law on the books that said a media outlet could not propagate lies with the intent of agitating public opinion?? Fox News would never exist, Keith Olbermann would be out of a job, Lou Dobbs would never have airtime, and we'd be back to the glory days of Tom Brokaw and even Walter Cronkite. News would be news again. I'm not up for giving that power to the executive branch alone (ie, the offending the president bit), but damn, it would be nice to have some media accountability for once. -
Sounds like we have dictators in the making with these comments.

You know, I thought about a retraction/clarification of sorts... as my "nuke him" comment was a bit of touchy sarcasm.
But no, not after seeing the CNN video posted.
I'll say why and openly welcome corrections.
As far as I know, Ahmadenijad pledges(quite publicly and repeatedly) an ending of Western style cultures and nations. Which is based upon his values and beliefs, not (only) as retribution.
Therefore, a scenario is brought up:
A man threatens you and your family based upon his full fledged beliefs that you are the reason the world will end in three months unless you are removed from earth.
You have one of three options:
1. Go ahead and kill yourself (not likely)
2. Attempt to restrain him (the rest of your existence)
3. Take his life first
This is your chance to enlighten myself and many others with the same logical process. My advice is not to come across hateful but informative.
I do feel this is a point that creates the schism amongst Americans on when/whether/how to act.
I suppose others will offer alternate solutions, such as to appease Ahmadenijad. Be sure you're well read on WWII before going this route.
Peace-
