McDonald’s supports economic opportunities for gays and attracts the wrath of the Religious Right

Seems those wonderful folks over at the American Family Association of Tupelo, MS, are at it again and this time they are all upset with Ronald McDonald and McDonald's Restaurants for their having become members National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

The NGLCC is a national not-for-profit advocacy organization specifically dedicated to expanding the economic opportunities and advancements of the LGBT business community.

McDonalds now has its vice president of communications for McDonalds USA, Richard Ellis, sitting on the NGLCC Board of Directors.

But AFA Founder and Chairman Donald E. Wildmon is asking everyone to send an e-mail to McDonald's because they “have signed on to a nationwide effort to promote "gay" and "lesbian" business ventures.”

The AFA defines itself as "a Christian organization promoting the biblical ethic of decency in American society”, by promoting socially conservative values and causes in the United States. Primary among these causes is opposition to what the AFA expresses refers to as the "homosexual agenda” and claims a membership of over 2 million people.

Homophobia is not the AFA's only agenda though.

It has in the past been accused of Antisemitism for it's views on the so-called "theocidal curse", citing the role of Jewish people in the media, saying that they have an anti-family agenda. In the past has also said that these Jews have intentionally placed anti-Christian messages and activities into their programming to undermine Christianity.

  • I think these people wait in room. Some are sitting and some are standing. Some are quietly talking, some filing their nails...and then a fax comes in and all eyes are on it. The official fax reader picks it up and reads the headline. "McDonald’s Supports Economic Opportunities for Gays."
    The leader: Grab your pitch forks, torches, and put the babies to bed folks. We've got ourselves another one.

  • Yeah most are figuring out that gays will support those who support them and the attitude of most these days about something like this e mail campaign is....

  • As a patron of fast food joints I care about several things....and some are unwritten..

    First, hopefully, the foodstuffs are disease free and the staff makes the appropriate cleanliness checks and this includes making sure that they wash their hands ( some folks don't ) after bathroom use.

    Other than that I hope that I receive my purchase hot and ...

    CORRECT!

    As I've noticed recently that employees of such restaurants are pretty bad at getting the order right these days!

    That's it period.

    Now, the question here is do I care WHO WORKS at these restaurants???

    And my answer is NO.

    And also do I make it a point to inquire if they hire LGB whatevers?

    NO BECAUSE>>>>

    THIS IS A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT ONLY and it's business is to cook & serve hamburgers etc and I am choosing to come to McDonalds because I am hungry for McDonald's hamburgers etc and of course I could go elsewhere*

    But this is all so insane it's funny, incredibly funny because...

    Working at Mickey D's has got to be one of the worst jobs you can have.

    Trust me on this because I worked for them too:(

    *Rule number one of retailing:

    The customer can always go elsewhere if you make him or her mad enough and that's not a good thing either because too many lost sales equal lost revenue and sometimes that equals the failure of your business.
