To say I am saddened by the passing of George Carlin is an understatement. There are few comedians among us that had as much of an understanding of both human nature and the english language and were capable of expressing it so poignantly.
I was lucky enough to see him live on stage only once in Honolulu, New Year's Eve 2003 and it is an experience I will never forget and always be grateful for.
I could write for days on how much his insight and opinions greatly reflected my own. He just had a much better way of expressing it. From his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine to his countless rants on religion ("I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a guy nailed to two pieces of wood."), there was nothing nonsensical that he couldn't make sense out of. ;)
Two things about George Carlin's sense of humor that I always prized was that it was always intelligent and honest. There was truth in his humor that you couldn't find in the classroom, in our media, or our government. The kind of truth that needed to be told and required a fairly open mind. No one could nail our faults as a species better, yet make you roll over with laughter at the same time. "If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little."
Maybe one of the reasons he was favored by so many for so many years is because he not only had this seemingly super-human ability, but was kind enough to continue sharing it for as long and as much as he possibly could. He seemed to have it all figured out and would every now and then throw us a tidbit of insight in a way that would not only raise your awareness, but crack you up as well. "I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death."
George Carlin's passing is not only a loss to the comedic world, but a loss to the whole world. His comedy was a gift and should be treasured as much as any famous work of art, literature, or piece of music. Only two words come to mind when I think about all the laughter and wisdom he bestowed upon the human race. Thank you. Thank you, thank you, a million times, thank you.

A funny man with that rare ability to not care what people might think with the things that he says.
An amazing man. an influential man.
he will be dearly missed.-

I was in the process of moving from Minnesota to Tennessee when I heard this extremely sad news. Just came back online today and wanted to add a few thoughts on Mr. Carlin.
To say that he's one of my most influential heroes is the understatement that kicks the living shit out of all understatements.
He made me think while making me beg for mercy in hardest laughter. He said what I thought and did it far better than my mind ever could hope to string together to express to others.
His passing is the kind of hurt that won't subside anytime soon, I assure you.
Whoever's in charge "out there", take good care of George and give him a nice place for all his stuff.

I honestly think I would not have found my own calling if it wasn't for George Carlin's comedy.
He was a great thinker;
He will be missed.
