The House of Representatives and the Senate of Oklahoma have adopted a resolution claiming sovereignty of the state.
The legislators refer to the Tenth Amendment of the US Constitution which reads "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”.
The resolution says “the states are demonstrably treated as agents of the federal government” and point out other violations of the Tenth Amendment.

What with all the idiots in Oklahoma who care more about dissing God by not understanding that he created evolution too, maybe it's time to let Oklahoma secede...
Maybe for a little while, just enough for the residents to throw the bums out

Therefore, the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation demands that the federal government cease mandates “that are beyond the scope of its constitutionally delegated powers”.
The resolution has been sent to the US President, both chambers of the country’s Congress, as well as to the heads of each state’s legislatures.
****************
That was the rest of the article. I think that took a lot of balls for both houses to pass such a resolution; it really makes a statement of independence from the Tyranny of Washington. -
Holy crap! Way to go Oklahoma!
Come on, if they can do it California can!
It's no secret that the USA as we know it is coming to an end, just like Rome. Get out while you can.
California Independence, Oklahoma Independence. -
why haven't we heard about this before? it's not new!

Funny. The message to the Busheney gang couldn't be any louder if an overwhelming percentage of Americans disapproved of them.
Oh ya, that has happened.
You really want to see some action, get results in a heartbeat? Have a state legislature ban these corporations from doing business in the state. That'd kick butt.
If you have any doubt the country isn't run by and for big money / business, drive down any highway in a part of town not more than twenty, thirty years old maybe, and every offramp leads to strip malls, big outlet stores, big money investments - all roads lead you to corporate America. Thanks politicians.
Keep this in mind; one of Al Bush Queda gangs agenda is to undermine the American people and economy. Bush said it - about Al Queda and he meant it. What he did say was that Al Queda was he and his co-conspirators.
So, he can be sure their plans will never work.-

This probably isn't a good thing. I'm sure Oklahoma just wants to ignore environmental and labor regulations and violate individuals' rights.
And we already had a war over whether nullification is a legitimate state right, and the United States won. I don't think Oklahoma would win any legal dispute and they were probably doing this over evil Mexicans and Canadians trying to take our sovereignty. -
yea states rights is a crucial component of our founding father's conception of a functioning government.... too bad the conception died out after the civil war.

It passed 92 to 3
"WHEREAS, a number of proposals from previous administrations and some now pending from the present administration and from Congress may further violate the Constitution of the United States."
And even further they have recalled a bill that would have facilitated NAFTA superhighway.
They are still pissed about the OK. city bombing on wich the mayor wrote a book proving government complicity. -
Teh Constitution ... what's that?

Way to go Oklahoma
-
The Florida Keys already did that in 1982 and declared themselves The Conch Republic. So it's not a new idea.
I just wonder where Oklahoma is supposed to go now, it's not like they have enough to offer independently to be self sufficient. -
You know, I'm all for symbolic and meaningless resolutions as much as the next guy, but damn, that's overdoing it.
-
The times they are a changin'. Hold on folks, its going to be one bumpy ride!

America is more and more divided .
-
That is truly awesome; out of all states it was Oklahoma. Hopefully that's a bigger push for California to declare it as well. If Ron Paul become governor of Texas, I wouldn't mind declaring sovereignty with him as president.

This can only be a good thing for those of us worrying that our government is becoming too 'big brother-y'. Just keep in mind folks that THIS DOES NOT MEAN SUCCESSSION, NOR INDEPENDENCE. OK is just sending D.C. the message to not overstep its bounds. Hopefully other states follow suit so that our federal government remembers they are here to serve us, not the other way around. Anyway, this was posted from Russia Today. WTF? Are they tired of talking about Chechnya?

No other state other than Texas could survive without the United States.
-
haha you're not from Texas, are you, J Jammer?
-
These legislators should look at the other non original 12 amendments to the constitution because then they would realize that there is an inclusionary clause in the 14th amendment... thats how prohibition was passed...

I think that Oregon has more claim to that title than Texas, Jammer - we're the shape that kids learn right after circle. Beat that. We've got our grid that connected to that entire Enron thing, so now we're separate. We grow more food for export here than we could ever need, so no imports needed there. We export our water reserves regularly, same goes for energy (hell, we power half of California). Plus we have better weather, infrastructure, culture and transportation than Texas could hope for.
-
So much for the NAFTA Super Highway. So much for a North American Union. Nice going Okies!
I would only hope that Texas will be next.
Currently it is only a resolution in Oklahoma:
http://www.okhouse.gov/51LEG/Leg_Votesxx.aspx?include=o...
But with a 92 to 3 vote, this should become law.-

Well let's hope that war isn't declared on them. If we attack Iraq, a soveriegn nation then..............
-
I would imagine that there are quite a few folks in OK who were ready to secede after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah building in 1995. That operation was a test-run for the events of 9/11.
-
Thats an awesome statement made by the Okies. VT had a grassroots movement that has been pushing for seccession for a while now.

Anyone remember the public spectacle when Key West, FL tried to secede from the state and nation? Called itself the "Conch Republic" and to this day, you can still get a Conch Republic passport (just don't try to use it officially)
-
I'm all for it. Let's break this place up into more compassionate mini societies, like it used to be, when the natives were here.
Sends a clear message to the corruption in Washington.
Nice work Okies. -
Yup hard times are on the Horizon. The way the housing market's going and how hard it is to find even a low level job. Makes you wonder if not more states should declare sovereignty. California could do it. Come on Govenator Lets terminate our ties to Washington!
-
Here I thought California would be the first state to do something like this. Hope we'll be the 2nd... Actually, California could probably support itself, so lets just skip all the formalities, secede and do ourselves all a favor.
On another note, at least I'm not the only one who thought the Oklahoma City Bombing was a trial run for 9/11...-

On the Topic of the Trans-Texas Corridor....
I used to live in Texas. I know the people. Texans don't take shit from anybody. Remember the Alamo? They sure do. They will stand out in the middle of the road with their .306 and take headshots. They don't fuck around, especially when it comes to OUR government taking THEIR LAND, that's been in their family since their ancestors came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin. If you don't believe me, watch this town hall protest video - http://youtube.com/watch?v=btewqYiom_o It's their heritage, their blood, and I know for damn sure they are going to fight to protect it. Revolution is coming, one way or another. It's either going to be a revolution in the way we all think and act, or a revolution just like every other one in history, bloody and vengeful, leaving history to repeat itself because the root problems haven't been addressed.-

I really wounder how Laura Bush holds her head up during the day. Does she really beleve in the crap he is spewing. Maybe she has that stolkholme syndrom or something. Do you think she is in some kind of trance. I see her in these photo ops reading to some kids or something and she is smiling like life is absolutly beautiful and nothing is going on behind closed doors. I s she really going to play that card?
