Barack Obama said Tuesday that evangelical leader James Dobson was "making stuff up" when he accused the presumed Democratic presidential nominee of distorting the Bible.

Dobson used his Focus on the Family radio program to highlight excerpts of a speech Obama gave in June 2006 to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal.

Speaking to reporters on his campaign plane before landing in Los Angeles, Obama said the speech made the argument that people of faith, like himself, "try to translate some of our concerns in a universal language so that we can have an open and vigorous debate rather than having religion divide us."

Obama added, "I think you'll see that he was just making stuff up, maybe for his own purposes."

  • Dobson is just pissed that all his GOP party offers this election is McCain, by whom he is repulsed. Meanwhile, the youth of among even Evangelicals are flocking to support Obama, now realizing that one does not have to be anti-abortion to exercise the freedoms of being pro-life. Thanks to the McCain supported Bush43 invasions and occupations of the Middle East just for the privilege of provoking more Global Warming by the burning of long-carbon chain fossil fuels, young Evangelicals have come to equate being pro-life with being pro-environment and anti-war. And, they're supporting that stand with passages of the same Bible Dobson once used to declare that Dumya was God's choice to lead Christian America!

Dobson is currently rumored to be starting his own party to combat Grampers and Obama, into which his own parishoners are not even buying. I guess that inability to even register a minor blip on the American political radar is a little more frustrating than the good doc can take right now.
