345 arrested, kids rescued in prostitution busts

Hundreds of people have been arrested and 21 children rescued in what the FBI is calling a five-day roundup of networks of pimps who force children into prostitution.

The Justice Department says it targeted 16 cities as part of its "Operation Cross Country" that caps off five years of similar stings nationwide. Many of the children forced into prostitution are either runaways or what authorities call "thrown-aways".

In all, authorities arrested 345 people during the operation that ended this week. Since 2003, 308 pimps and hookers have been convicted in state and federal courts of forcing youngsters into prostitution, and 433 child victims have been rescued, Mueller said.

The cities targeted in this week's sting are: Atlanta; Boston; Dallas; Detroit; Houston; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; Montgomery County, Md.; Oakland, Calif.; Phoenix; Reno, Nev.; Sacramento, Calif.; Tampa; Toledo, Ohio and Washington.

The problem of child prostitution has taken on a new urgency in recent years with the growth of online networks where pimps advertise the youngsters to clients. The FBI generally investigates child prostitution cases that cross state lines.

  • Wow, when you think "child prostitution" you rarely think about it happening in your own backyard. The sher number of victims just amazes me. I'm glad they were rescued.

  • I think its a serious thing that these people took their kids and forced them into prostitution. It should be constantly watched and monitored and enforced right away.

  • I hope all of the criminals involved serve the maximum possible sentences. I pray that the ACLU does not prevent Justice from being served to these worst of the worst people on Earth, again.

I'm thankful these kids are getting some help--but there are still so many left out there to fend for themselves. How can we spend billions on a war as our own children are prostituted?

  • that disgustes me i hope the leaders get whats comeing to them and that those kids learn to forgive and go on with there lives
  • Great. I hope they can continue cleaning out the scum off the streets. And I hope they can experience the same torment from they're cell mate.

  • Such a sick story, but I guess it's "good" news since the kids were saved. I just hope they can lead normal lives in the future.

  • that is so sad, and to think that most of those children were runaways, trying to find a better life but ended up being forced to sell their body for someone else.
  • 433! That's like all the missing kids!

  • hmmm... i don't know what to say about that

  • kids being pimped out here in the US in mass quantities? kind of disconcerting finding out your country is overhyped like it was a summer blockbuster movie.

And the sad thing is the Supreme Court had the chance to make it a capital punishment offense to rape a child but they refused the Liberal Cowards. I think if you rape a child or take a part in the aiding and abedding of said rape like forceing a child into prositution you should be put to death and all exicutions in this country should be televised on all chanels I think that would make the crime rate start to drop.

  • Any child who leaves home, or is in a situation where living on the street appeals more than living at home is going through some serious stuff. If prostitution outweighs staying home what the hell is going on in that house? I was a family counslelor for years and I woked with affluent families. You would never imagine what these kids deal with. Moneymakers know as much or less than anyone about raising children. I am not so sure sending them home is "saving" them. The question is "Why do people still seek out situations where using others feels good?" Just like drugs. We spend millions fighting the drug war yet America is still the biggest consumer. What is driving the market of young women as commodities?

  • I agree with every person above. Also, listen closely. I believe all child rapests deserve death. If they don't get it, the child that was raped will fear thier life for the rest of thier life! And in that way, that child recieves death until the suspect is terminated. Not like an abortion, for babies are innocent. Think about it! I believe criminals should be forgiven, but should not exscape restituion! The law was designed for the unlawful, and the law was sent by God. Babies and criminals, life and death, forgiveness, and restitution. Think about it.

  • Children are most often the easiest victims as they have limited life experiences. I was once one of these children. I spend more than half my life thinking what I was doing and who I was doing it for was a natural and priveledged occurance. I didn't realize until I was in my early 30;s and ran across the country to save my 8 year old daughter from the same life, that I had choices. I guess I was a throw away child....I pray for these children as the road ahead of them is difficult. The world as we know it is like the moon to them. It is alien and frightening.

  • I can't believe the painful term Throw Away. Not even stating that it shouldn't be used because it gives the right emotion to their plight, but it's painful to read let alone hear.

No child is worthless so much so that they should be tossed aside and forgotten.

I would so adopt every single child if it were even possible for me to even handle that mass amount or had the funds to do something constructive and productive with them.

  • I'm so glad authorities are doing something about this worldwide crisis of child prostitution. It's amazing how this can be going on right under our noses.

  • Good to see that our law enforcement is doing something better than wasting time and money on throwing non-violent offenders in jail. Why waste time on some kid with a gram of pot when you've got 433 kids in danger?

  • When you come upon a scenerio such as this, you'd likely have to pose the question of where is the political system headed all around us? On top of that, you likely have to ask about the issue of parenting. Come on, 200 plus children out on the streets selling themselves. Something has got to give, when that number is eclipsed. Guessing that the family structure as of today, is not as foucused as it once was in the past.

  • i... Simply dont understad how can somebody do something like this.

  • i would like to give credit where credit is due finally instead of the FBI being a conspirasy it solved one so i give a thumbs up on the FBI'S . the problem does start at home and we have so few fathers today, family structure is broken down. also hollywood and music industries have made crime seem cool or funny, look at home alone ,its a comedy about grown men breaking in a home trying to attack a child thats at home by himself??? in reality its sick and perverted but its a childrens comedy movie? we watch it at home but when it happens in reality we wonder whats going on. look at majority movies on the shelves its all** vileonce** if that entertains us does that make us better than the one doing the *vileonce* turn tv's off and PRAY PLEASE

I am grateful that someone has stepped in to save these children from what seems to be the new slavery across the world. Human trafficking, child prostitution, and the likes are atrocities that occur right next door to our own houses and something must be done. Continue the fight for injustice.

  • Hey, Oneness4life, God did not bring the laws we have in this country. Check your history books. And stay on topic. This is about child prostitution, not about the importance of prayer in combatting violence in television.

As for these child rapists, I don't think they deserve the death penalty. Let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives. But don't kill them. You can't fight fire with fire.

  • And to think, America's kids out there are being used for prostition..how wonderful of a society we all live in.

  • It's scary to see these things happen in my city. I never knew sacramento was that bad....

  • actully ** guntown_kid82 **God says, (not man) in ROMANS 13:1-2, that laws or powers are ORDAINED of GOD and i would highly advice you to read the history (not public school history books) why early settlers came to a new land (persecution) and study where the goverment got their values and lawmaking from? i wasnt just attacking tv but the root of the problem (mainly in the homes) i would also like to say new i.d. cards coming out , not needing money anymore would knock out alot of violence without money theres no more prostitution or drug dealing. and as for prayer and not what i say, but the proof. when prayer was taken out of school we went from a paddle to a metal detector! deal with the root and quit breaking branches.

  • THE WORST PROBLEM ABOUT OUR FLAWED SYSTEM IS THAT ALL UNDERAGE VICTIMS OF SEX TRAFFICKING HAVE TO BE PROSUCTUED THROUGH THE SYSTEM and innocent children are sold, traded and pimped for fear of losing their life and they go down as the criminal.

If you all really care....check out the benefits of systems like the LETOT center in Dallas which rehabilitates over 40, 000 broken families due to homelessness and drug abuse and solicitation. The stats will make you feel guilty for not seeing these children as victims...they have been used and ignored for too long.

    peace and love
