Liberals dismiss studies that show a link between abortion and breast cancer, claiming they are biased because the people promoting the studies are "anti-choice."

For the same reason, no one should believe the Democrats' "energy" policies.

Democrats couldn't care less about high gas prices. The consistent policy of the Democratic Party, going back at least to Jimmy Carter, has been to jack up gas prices so we can all start pedaling around on tricycles.

Environmentalists are constantly clamoring for higher gas taxes as the cure-all to their insane global warming theory. Clinton proposed a 26-cent tax on gas. John Kerry said it should be 50 cents. Gore endorsed the Malthusian proposal of Paul and Anne Ehrlich in "The Population Explosion" that gas taxes be raised gradually to match prices in Europe and Japan.

The result is consumers now pay about 46 cents per gallon in gasoline taxes. That's not including taxes paid directly to the government by the oil companies and passed onto consumers. As the inestimable economist John Lott has pointed out, in the past 25 years oil companies have paid more than three times in taxes what they have made in profits.

B. Hussein Obama's response to soaring gas prices is to have the oil companies collect even more money from us at the pump, proposing a "windfall profits tax" on oil companies. "Corporate taxes" sound like taxes on rich people, but all they do is force corporations to collect taxes on behalf of the government.

Democrats have worked hard to ensure that Americans pay as much for gas as Europeans do. After a quarter-century of gas tax hikes, a ban on drilling for oil and a complete destruction of the nuclear power industry in America, I guess liberals can declare: Mission accomplished!

  • Ann can think by speaking it simply makes the facts real but that is untrue. Obama's "windfall profit taxes" actually makes her friends pay back all the takes that Bush has allowed them to get by on paying for the last 8 years and the Corporate tay loop-hole closing would make rich people pay taxes that they have been dodging for the last couple of years while abusing the "Foreign Tax" code. I believe McClatchy Review cited close to $473 Million in taxes that people making $250,000 or more had evaded in 2007 alone. She can shut her hole now nobody is listening to Repug talking points and nobody really cares what they think. Obviously, they are unpatriotic and don't LOVE America . Wow!!! That sounds familiar!

    hiking taxes on "the rich" is a wonderful, gut-warming idea, with no consideration for what "the rich" do in response to higher taxes.

    they invest more offshore, they move their companies offshore where profits may be higher, and they move their investments from profit-making things like manufacturing and job-creating things into tax-sheltered investments like MUNICIPAL AND STATE AND FEDERAL BONDS, the income from which is mostly sheltered from income or capital gains tax!!!!

    in addition, if you look at what those BONDS ARE, they're LOANS that the various levels of government take out to pay for things they want to accomplish, and the PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ARE PAID BACK THROUGH TAXES AND NOTHING ELSE.

    they're never invested in anything that has a positive payback.

    bonds are nice because you can get a lot of money to buy something TODAY, like a new highway, bridge or utility infrastructure which will be MUCH more expensive if you wait ten years to start, but many bonds finance other junk, too.

    when the taxes on "the rich" go up, they loan money to you that you pay back.

    keep selling that idea all you want. the rich won't object, but you, in the long run, just might have some pain from shooting yourself in the foot [or groin] due to your "wisdom."

    when "the rich" make profits, they don't eat or burn the money. they buy things and invest in things that create jobs.

    if you can't see that, well.... keep fighting them.... they enjoy every minute.

    How is it possible that the Oil companies have paid 3x the amount of taxes than they have in profits over the last 25 years?? In the last 3 years, Exxon Mobile ALONE has raked in $116.21 BILLION in profits. That means that they would have paid over $348.63 BILLION in taxes, AND THAT'S JUST FOR 3 YEARS.

    #1 - I said this was going to piss everyone off and it worked on you, however I like to post lots of different material just to get comments going, most everything else on this site is (to keep the porn mag flavor) like a giant circle jerk. Besides, just because I post it doesn't mean I agree with it, and sometimes I could care less anyways. And you think you can't comment because she doesn't list credible sources? It's an opinion just like everyone's opinion on this site, what's a credible source, really? Is it only credible if you agree with it? everyone has an agenda

    but when someone's opinion is, imnsho or otherwise, based on faulty logic, reasoning, thinking or evidence, i also like to as them to "show me the data" that brought them to their alleged conclusion.

    i think that's one of the POSSIBLE benefits of a site like this.

    when someone asks a question and there's no answer provided, maybe SOMEONE gets to see that the original 'opinion' was just a hare-brained idea with no merit.

    if they can't answer "why" without resorting to vile language or slander, you can tell they lost the argument long ago.

    What in this "story" is worthy of discussion?
    The gist of the article is that dems or the left have no desire to lower gas prices and actually intend to do the opposite.
