It's great to buy greener technology, but what about your old stuff that becomes obsolete?
Sony's new program is aiming to recycle one pound of product for every pound of product they sell.

They are trying to create a network for all products and all consumers to be ready to recycle across the nation.

  • This is good news from Sony. Sound thinking. Hope it catches on since the world has gone mad (war, politics, oil, you name it).

  • How much recycling do you throw again in a given week? We fill up at least two huge barrels, and if I were even more careful about it, I could probably do better.

A lot of this trash is product waste from company packaging. Big manufacturing companies need to think more carefully about their "cradle to grave" green philosophy.

It has to be more than just simply putting the recycling mark on it. Take a look at our other green technology videos for more on this topic.

  • I like the program, but am skeptical of all the so-called monitoring of vendors. No e-waste recycling is done in the United States, so its always a sub-contractor who sub-contracts to another sub. People at the top like Sony and Waste Management just want a paper trail that keeps them looking green, but there is little tracking of the waste and a lot of it ends up in India & China where young children rip it apart and spill toxins into the water, air, & land.

  • Rahul:

It's true that the tracking methods weren't disclosed by Sony when we shot this story. In fact, they announced it at this year's CES, but I'm sure that the details for the program aren't all worked out yet. It will be interesting to see what comes of it. We've shot a bunch of other CES videos. Check them out on www.youtube.com/expertrealestatetips
