"Ireland today finds itself comparable to the habitually sober citizen who has woken up with a raging hangover after having gone on an almighty pub crawl during which the family silver was foolishly pawned.

A severe post-binge headache is now weighing heavily on the national psyche as it confronts the grim reality of the consequences for Ireland's position in the European Union after rejecting the Lisbon Treaty."

  • The thing is almost all of the politcal parties were campaigning for yes votes,

but then posters were getting put up such as "if you don't know, vote no", but if you don't know what you're voting, you don't vote. So many people ended up voting no because they hadn't a clue what the lisbon treaty was about.

  • Perhaps some of the voters in Ireland where misguided by clever campaigns preying on peoples lack of understanding on a document that makes War & Peace look like penguin paper back.

Spawned to stop the killing and bring Europe closer together the Econmic drive is greater than the drive to a better Community,,,,we are in danger now of forming a totalitarian state.

At least Ireland had the right to a vote and exercised it

  • Oh let me tell you about the Independent, owned by "sir" tony o reilly, it publishes as a broadsheet but is a rag like the sun or the mail.

cozy with the government after the last time the opposition were in power they rejected tonys application for a mobile phone licence (income lost: billions)

The catholic right did not bring up the abortion issue they knew it was not affected and so did the voters. Its a stereotypical; non issue. designed to paint us as thick paddies.

Our government rather than going to the EU sayiing, "Well we wanted a yes but they voted no and you have to respect that"

    have gone and said "Sorry"

If we are only allowed to vote one way what was the point.

I didn't believe in the nonsense so many people write about the EU before this referendum, but seeing how they seem to be able to ignore what we said, no bother to them is worrying.

If the EU is abunch of people who don't want to listen to their citizens, then I don't want to be in the EU .
    It's a disgrace.

And I'm one of the most pro EU people you will ever meet, what it has done for Europe is marvellous, but they are becoming so bloated they are leaving citizens behind.
