If you need proof that our country has been turned over to corporations. This is but one of many fronts on which we are being attacked. State and local law enforcement are compliscant in the Fascist takeover. There are many video's on this subject, yet MSM is yet to even acknowledge this is happening in the U.S.. You can log on at iLoveMountains.org and see that not one congressman in the coalfield districts has signed on to the " Clean Water Protection Act" yet they will all stand and tell their voters they are "good christian conservatives".

They just don't care. Public financing of elections would get us some regular people that are like us and live in our neighborhoods in office. People that understand the people they represent.

Our paid off corporate government and it's fake jury...
How dirty is coal really? You're about to find out.
Oh, and a couple MORE corrupt Republicans for you Plusaf. Fancy that... -
can't watch it quite yet. Too depressing sounding.
-
Yes, and they will tell you "clean coal" is really clean...They are liars and murderers and so are the political candidates that support them for their own benefit. But will we ever get a candidate willing to stand up to big coal? Thank you for posting this truth.

onechance... "Our paid off corporate government and it's fake jury... Oh, and a couple MORE corrupt Republicans for you Plusaf. Fancy that... "
your implication is clearly that virtually all corportations are owned by the government and vice-versa.
i deny that.
it's like saying "all [fill in the blank]s are bad people."
the judges are obviously corrupt and should have recused themselves from the decisions in the cases involving the coal company.
that is individuals' lack of ethics and morals, and it's a blot on everything WE AGREE ON about ethics and morals.
but the blanket condemnation is going too far, ... sorry. "proof that our country has been turned over to corporations" is illogical, refutable and inflammatory.
and if you think that because i'm FOR profits [as opposed to making everyone operate at a loss???], that makes me a Republican, you don't know me at all.
i score VERY close to "pure libertarian" on the Nolan Chart. scroll down the page at http://www.plusaf.com/aboutme.htm and see where i am, then click the Nolan Chart link and look at the questions.
THIS "republican" favors Roe V Wade and Choice AND low taxes; right to smoke dope AND support a military to protect the country; the rights of individuals to own guns AND thinks the "need" for civilians to have a right to own full-automatic weapons is one of the dumbest ideas on earth. -
When will we have civility in our country once again...so much corruption is what has led to the demise of every great empire in previous history...and now threatens to bring down this great nation...'so called' pillars of justice, who are really the purveyors of great injustice, due to their blatant betrayal of the public trust...what must they be thinking...money, money, mooonneeyyy...
plusaf, didn't you once post that you traded in your truck for an electric car..? If so, that's a good start... -
@Plato... yes, the corruption is rampant, and its effects really do scare me. but i don't blame free markets or capitalism FOR the ethical decay, i blame the people who, individually, figure out or are taught and learn that screwing someone else for your own short-term gain is somehow "better" overall or in the long run, than NOT screwing them and working together to make things better for both [as well as others.]
i don't believe it's a zero-sum game, as many here do, where "my gain is your loss."
money is actually a pretty useful thing. it allows me to NOT have to rely on a 100% barter system to trade something i have for something i want. i don't want to raise vegetables in my back yard so i can go down to the local gas station and barter them for a few gallons of gas..... money makes LOTS of things much easier, such as saving for retirement, which is virtually impossible in a non-money system, eh?
if people game the system, i don't start by attacking the system. i ask why they think gaming the system is the "right thing to do."
and i actually sold TWO cars [no trucks... you read or were told wrong...] to HELP buy my prius...
a 12-mpg corvette and my "driver car," a 22-mpg ford taurus.
the corvette is now somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, having been repaired and restored very nicely by the guy who bought it from me and later sold to another collector who's making it even better than it ever was for me. the taurus went to a young man who needed a fairly reliable car, as he was, i believe, starting a new job out of college and dating a very nice young woman. he was still willing to take a chance on a Ford. it was a '79, and in '04 it had only 30,000 miles on it and i'd just had a new heater core, tires and battery put in.
then my wife and i shared her car for a few months while i waited for my prius [hybrid, NOT electric] to come in. i couldn't wait. we found one on another dealer's lot about 25 miles away and bought it practically out from under the people taking it for its next test drive. 42 miles on it when we took title, give or take. it's at about 36,000 as of now, and still turning 44+ mpg around town.
i think my wife is beginning to covet it, so i may have to work harder to encourage her to sell HER '78 Camry XLE [also with low mileage] and start waiting for a Prius AGAIN.... :)))))))))))))))))))))))
[ask me what i really think about my Prius, if you have an hour or two to listen.... :) ] -
O.K. try this. In 1942 corporate CEO's from 3 major US companies were brought before congress on charges of an attempted Fascist ( corporate ) takeover of the gov. Since then the steady flow of deregulation has changed the method with which this Fascist takeover is being made possible. I seem to remember the right wing call for deregulating business as a means to pull the economy out of the impending recession. Fascist leaders were watched and held in check for decades. Today those same fascist ideas are the foundation of the pro- corporate right wing. Case in point; Friends of coal are heavily supported by the Heritage Foundation, and many other conservative organizations founded by corporations to misinform the general public. The deregulation of the savings and loan in'85 led to the $300 million taxpayer bailout, (Neil Bush ) was later convicted of fraud and promptly pardoned by daddy. Dereg. of the media has led to a rash of ignorant voters who have no idea how the poloticians they vote for are voteing against everything they say they stand for. (R) Geoff Davis runs on conservative values; and here is some of his voting record; Clean water protection act ; NO Lobby reform NO, cap on interest rates; NO, Gov. accountability; NO He supports offshore drilling and has raised $12 million to run his latest campaign. 95% of this money has come from coal co's, oil co's, banking firms, mortgage lenders, DOW chemicals, In fact a year ago the congress brought forth a bill to cap interest on lenders such as CASH NOW< Check and Go and others like them. 1 week before the house voted Davis recieved a contribution " bribe" from the Ohio owner of check and go of $60'000, guess how fascist Davis voted. That's right he voted against the cap. When I tried to get an editorial in the local paper letting the hillbillies in his district know the editor told me he was 2 years from retirement and the papers owner killed my editorial. There was nothing he could do , Sorry. In fact an editorial was written about Davis standing against abortion that very week. So please don't tell me about corporations are not evil because the bigger they are the worse they are. And the less you will be told about the facts.

DIVIDE & CONQUER! The 2 party system is nothing more than the continuation of the age-old way of a handful of unscrupulous people consolidating power while controlling the masses & our resources. It leaves a split populous pitted against each other, polarized over issues presented as black or white-but never grey-where you must choose between vanilla or chocolate (absolutely NO pun intended). Yet, we know about all the other flavors out there that continually remain out of reach from the American voter.
This needed change has never been more important as illustrated by the acts of the current tyrannical administration under the horrifying rule of King George. If any of today’s pressing issues (just click Current News) that have been ignored for far too long are to be addressed & resolved, we need the support of all Americans to demand real change instead of settling for compromised band-aids that prolong real progress from administration to administration. There is no better time or greater sense of urgency than starting this process immediately.
Therefore, I propose the Baskin & Robbins Reform of Political Elections, where as many people/parties as possible-at least 31-can have the opportunity to present their governing ideas & proposals on a level field NOT predetermined by the ruling elite, who ultimately fund the “cesspool” of candidates from which our leader is chosen. This can only happen through public funding of elections, without the lobbyists for special interest groups perpetuating an inherently unfair system designed to keep power consolidated & out of the hands of the citizenry.
Unfortunately, until sweeping reforms are made, well meaning parties, especially the Libertarian & Green, as well as all the rest from Communist to Socialist & every other flavor that wants to be added to the menu of potential candidates will NOT be viable choices under the existing 2 party system. I’m sorry, but it’s time for Ralph Nader to go as well.
And don’t even get me going on the antiquated Electoral College BS where the voters indirectly elect our president through a group of middle-men &-women. How about a nice simple system like most of the world has where you vote for the candidate of your choice without someone helping you put your ballot in the box? Don’t even get me going! That’s it; I’m going out for ice cream now, probably pistachio.-

@victimofcoal, i'm not saying that there's a LOT of crap in the world and i'm not denying that a lot of it comes from really bad people who run corporations.
i object to your generalization that, essentially, ALL corporations, independent of what they do or say or try to do or say or what their employees do or try to do... are ALL bad.

Pretty bad situation! This is far worse than mining the traditional way. Cutting the tops off the mountains for the coal is no different than slashing, cutting and burning the Amazon rain forest. We have a different mindset which is indifference when it comes to the objectives of these coal barons and those given the power as keepers of these lands. We have a problem with the disconnect between nature, science and the need for energy & food. In the case of the Amazon rainforest land for grazing and soybeans. In the case of Appalachia, coal. All this short gain, for the misery which will come as a result of this shortsightedness. This will affect the lives of people for centuries to come and pollution, runoff, the affect of climatic change and all for what?
I tell people that once the Sahara was not a desert, but lush and full of plant life. It was destroyed by people who mismanaged the land. Destruction may leave the Amazon and Appalachia as lands of waste. Then those who are alive after the fact can tell their children what took place. -
@darkhorsejim: yes, but puzzle me this: i believe we don't have a multi-party Baskin-Robbins choice because the Big Two have made it virtually impossible for any third- or fourth- or nth-parties to even get on the ballot in the first place!
talk about monopolist powers... they should both be sued under some anit-monopoly act!!!
but..... if we had five or ten or twenty parties ALL on the ballot, why would we need or want "Public Financing" for them??????
for years i checked off the $1 or $2 [back when that was the ticket] for public financing on my 1040s...
then one day i realized that most of the time the party i'd most like to vote for [libertarian] always turned down public financing, so if my party of choice would never get any money, why should i donate even $1 to my "opposition"???????
now, if the 1040 said, "allocate $x.xx of your tax to one of the following political parties.... [with a whole swarm of check-the-boxes under that...] i'd jump all over that option!!!!!
so if all parties could be represented, how do you divvy up the loot from the "public financing" coffers without giving to much to some and not enough to others?
by the number of registered voters of each party? no, in NC there are three choices for registration: red, blue and independent. probably the same in many other states.....
if there were check-boxes on the 1040, and you and i could choose the party the dollars went to, then is it "public financing" or just the IRS collecting and disseminating the funds?
how about 'no donations from pacs... oh, i already said that.... and any donation any individual makes to any party is fine.... and maybe NOT tax-deductable. that lowers the reward for the Very-Rich to donate tons of money to their candidates...
and for heaven's sake, can ANYBODY really justify keeping the Electoral College?!?!??!
what an anachronism........ -
I am so amused that i and the rest of the fugitives already learn to accept the truth that we need to combine forces against those Big Coals even the Coal-fired Power Plants....
Simplified facts about the configuration of the truth never tell a lie why there are floods.... ACID RAIN is one source of all and the damages that the Big Coal done to our lovable nature.
I do admit that i also encountered harrasment because of that Coal-fired Power Plant and even death threat that contaminates the sea and the sky even our mother nature.
What should we expect? But blame those greedy politicians and those who wants to earn Big...
I am one of the victim of a sabotage inside a Coal-fired Power Plant here in Quezon Province and instead of helping me, they sabotage me even my own email ad and stole the reports that i sent and destroy it and sent an impostor that came from the Government of Quezon Province.
I know they will not stop abusing me and will not stop destroying even my email ad and my blogs for the truth about nature and the illness i got from that Coal-fired Power Plant that almost make me lost my sanity.
