WASHINGTON - John McCain welcomed a Supreme Court decision invalidating a District of Columbia handgun ban. Barack Obama sought to straddle the subject by saying he favors an individual's right to bear firearms as well as a government's right to regulate them.
The hotly contentious issue surfaced in the presidential campaign Thursday after the Supreme Court ruled that Americans have a constitutional right to own guns and struck down the city's thirty-two-year-old ban.

Honestly, I believe that most of the people who speak on this issue are full of it. You have to be a resident of this city (not capitol hill, but the rest of this city) to understand why this really doesn't solve anything at all. Putting a ban on any type of firearms only affect the gun collectors who keeps them for show. Your average citizen either doesn't know how to use a firearm correctly and/or does not want to have them in thier home at all.
As for the bit about it taking an affect on gun crime, that's just crap. Your average criminal who carries and/or uses any type of firearm gets it through illegal and very concealed connections. Seeing as how a family member of mine used to be heavily involved in gun trafficing, I can say from some experience that putting a ban on hand guns just shows that you have no idea of how things work in this city. -
Man do you sound like a city boy, but I live in San Fran and there are gun and archery ranges near by which people use for, well to have fun really. There are also a ton of hunters in California which obviously this law affects.
The best part is that I grew up in Michigan and I will save you the time but I could go on all day long talking about the average citizen that this law affects. Shooting guns is a hobby for a lot of people, and hunting is a way of life for a lot of people as well.-
