A total of 26 candidates - half of them independents - will contest the by-election sparked by the resignation of senior Tory David Davis as an MP.

The ex-shadow home secretary quit to generate a debate on civil liberties, especially the government's 42-day detention limit for terror suspects. Neither Labour nor the Liberal Democrats will field a candidate in Haltemprice and Howden on 10 July.

At the 2005 general election, Mr Davis won with a majority of 5,116. It is thought to be the highest number of candidates ever to stand at a by-election in recent times.

  • From David Icke's site -

DAVID ICKE TO STAND IN 'BIG BROTHER' BY-ELECTION

He will stand under the title 'Big Brother - The Big Picture' after a tremendous response to the idea over the last few days.

He needs all the help you can give him physically and financially over the next three weeks up to the poll on July 10th because time is very tight.

David has no desire to join the web of lies, deceit and corruption in the British Parliament, and would never swear the obligatory 'allegiance' to the Queen to take his seat, anyway, but it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the depth, scale and connections of the rapidly emerging - and global - Big Brother State that he has been warning about in his books for nearly two decades.

  • I guess the UK totally forgot the diabolical that gave us In The Name of the Father. Incarcerating almost an entire family on a single lie.

Hopefully they fix this in a way and people notice what's going on instead of sitting idly by.
