Your local news by way of the Philippines / India

The Tampa Tribune, with the blessing of it's corporate owners -- Media General, has outsourced it's advertising work to a firm in New Delhi, India. This is long after they outsourced subscription services to a call center in the Philippines.

This is not an uncommon issue with your local newspapers either. Though the story linked to focuses on the Tampa Tribune situation, it can be found that more and more newspapers are doing this. It may be accepted that more local media is owned by out-of-city/state corporations with no local ties... But outsourcing local operations for a newspaper? The further disconnect to the region of service is another reason why newsprint is failing financially.
