Marijuana contains an amazing chemical, beta-caryophyllene, and scientists have thoroughly proven that it could be used to treat pain, inflammation, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis.
Jürg Gertsch, of ETH Zürich, and his collaborators from three other universities learned that the natural molecule can activate a protein called cannabinoid receptor type 2. When that biological button is pushed, it soothes the immune system, increases bone mass, and blocks pain signals -- without causing euphoria or interfering with the central nervous system.

But imagine how expensive it would become if the government started selling it.
-
It is pressure from the pharmaceutical corporations that keep it illegal, because were it legalized, the pharmaceutical industry would be literally ruined.
-
yes but it wouldnt be illegal to grow it

LEGALIZE IT!!!...true governmental tax would def. raise the price, but imagine the social change...an illegal substance being legalized is a hype in itself so people would def. respond...Maybe things would mellow out!!! people would relax alittle!!!
-
yeah. legalize it for the rest of us. the government doesn't have to sell it, and if they do. there are better people to buy from. let others make their livings. it helps more than it hurts.

this might have already been said, but the only reason it isn't legal is because of the pharmaceutical industry. if this miracle drug was legal anyone could grow it and it would alleviate all kinds of chronic illnesses. however, the medical sector would see a huge decrease in profit because you could basically grow your own medicine.
i guess i shouldn't say the "only" reason, but with the amount of lobbying the pharma's due is it any wonder the politicians, despite so much evidence, still won't legalize it. (i guess there's also to be considered all the money wasted on the war on drugs, all the people serving 5-15 years for possession or selling etc etc.) -
if it did become legal i bet it would still be illegal for any random person to grow it. you'd probabaly have to have some kind of license to grow.
anyways if it did become legal i'm sure they would add addictive substances to marijuana to make profits higher..
yadayadayada..
remember kids..smoke weed everyday!-

it's time the people stood up for their rights and demanded an end to this hypocrisy.
Weed is medicine, kills pain, makes you feel happy.
And it's all natural!
PEOPLE!
If this is the renaissance of the green movement,
if we truly wish to correct our mistakes,
If we want to find our missing harmony
and be on the path of good intention,
then let's stop LYING TO OURSELVES.
If we are tired of cynicism and double standards and hypocrisies,
If we refuse to let money rule our lives,
If we are truly standing at the precipice of human civilization,
then the direction in which to go is clear,
and with confidence of virtue,
GO ALL THE WAY OR NOTHING!!
The legalization of marijuana is not a string to be left knotted!-

I know for a fact that weed helps pain, some of the worst pain humans can experience. Putting humans on opiates actually kills them since it (FACT) slowly shuts down the kidneys and liver. So, all your percocets and tylonols with codein and the rest are the actual killers.
LEGALIZE WEED NOW! We DEMAND IT!-

after serving three mandatory minimum years on a 25 year sentence for trafficking handed down by a small Alabama town judge, i realized quite unexpectedly that there were medical benefits to marijuana which had not been apparent to me.
i am a cancer survivor and self medicated with marijuana to control my fears and anxiety related to the diagnosis and surgical procedures related to the disease. after losing my access to this treatment while incarcerated, i noticed a marked increase in blood pressure and anxiety which i could not control. i had always been an advocate for legalization and even spoke publicly in favor in the past but now, on endless parole, i am subjected to random testing and cannot risk having my parole rescinded. it is extremely difficult for me to motivate myself to believe there is an end to my situation and the prohibition of this herb. it is not, not a drug, not addictive, not detrimental to the public health. the prohibition is the reason there is violence related to this substance, it is all about the money. legalize this herb and the world will change, for the better -
Powerful , safe and effective and to top that off it's extremely easy to grow and could save many american farmers as well as create an entirely new worldwide industry and job markets, now that the american dream is becoming a myth and depression looms on the horizon isn't it high time we went and legalized it?

It is my most fervent prayer that this generation sets out to undo all the ills visited on the world by the war on drugs, possibly more damaging than the other war we are currently waging.
Stephen Thomson, may you, and your generation find a sword sharp enough to cut this Gordian knot!-

It is not a miracle drug. NOTHING Is. There is always a down side. Whether or not they know what it is now or they'll find it out later...there is one.
I'm sure it has great abilities as stated. I'm also sure there is better ways to go about using it other than the harmful (I'm not going to sit here and believe inhaling smoke is healthy no matter what it is you are breathing in) smoking. Yes---digesting and the like.
There are lots of things that have been totted as the miracle drug and has proved not to be. ALL GREAT or ALL BAD is ALWAYS wrong. -
It's a miracle drug thats being rediscovered by modern society. It's always been good and has never killed anyone. That makes it always right!

On this world there is not a single thing that is left unscathed by imperfection. I highly doubt that if there were something it would be a plant.

Here's a pod about medical marijuana in California.
-
I work as a caregiver for a disabled woman. She has been forced to take valium, baclofen, and many other drugs to stop spams that make her life difficult. They all having disgusting side-effects on her body /personality. She has recently been able to purchase Medical Marijuana safely and legally in California. She can eat again. She can sleep again. She can feel Human again. What is the debate here?

i wonder how many times someone was violent when they were high..world peace

weed in itself is stupid stupid stupid.... but i can see the medical advantages of this and i would recommend just extracting the chems for normal drug use..
no need to give the average druggie any more hope -
Actually, Bernie Sanders introduced legislation just 3 short weeks ago to decriminalize marijuana as a first step toward legalization.( Media coverage nil.) As with most people , I too can speak from experience. My anger management issues worked FOR me as a US Marine but once I was released on the public it was the cause of many a night behind bars and days in court. To this day reefer is what saves quite a few belligerent jackasses in the "it's all about me" citizenry of American society from a punctuation to the mouth. However I do still reserve the right to the occasional ranting blog.

Well theres a few reasons why the government won't legalize hemp. The pharmaceutical industry would lose alot of money yes but look at how much money the government makes from keeping it illegal. Everytime someone gets locked up for selling hemp (which alot of kats do) their prisons get money for the head count! Also i mean smoking & cooking with hemp is dope shit and all but i mean lets think of the many other uses: stronger less costly clothing, hygiene products, thermal insulation, hemp plastic is 10 times stronger than steel! I mean come on people so many uses outside of the healing! Open up your 3rd eye..

We must find a way to get it through to all the old white guys still running the show. My parents still think anything the government tells you has got to be right.
It's an old mentality and it will change soon. Hopefully before I croak! Ripit!-

Holy fucking shit, who still thinks this is not a miracle plant? It's as every day the value of the plant increases, which just makes me feel better about smoking it every day. This plant is too good to be true.

Hey there's a thought, using one of the oldest medicines known to man, as a god forbid, medicine. It's all bullshit. I don't know how many of the people on here have smoked pot, but all of you who have know that it makes you feel better. It makes you feel good, and doesn't hurt you, aside from a little tissue damage to the lungs, but smoke one cigarette, and you could probably out-do all the damage the weed has done. I would much rather smoke a little wad of a plant that grew out of the forest, than pop several poisonous chemical pills that more than likely will shut down my brain, plug up my bowels, and make me throw up. Eating poison is so intelligent it's maddening.
-
Does this j jammer guy sound nuts? He doubts if there was a miracle drug that it would be a plant - ?? Wow - good night Irene! Go put your Bushie pajamas on and go back to sleep.
-
If weed was legal, a LOT of crime would end- the people stupid enough to do something criminal would peobably be far too stoned to do much more than reach for the remote or go buy Cheez-Its from the 7-11.
Give weed to the UN world leaders- It'll mellow them out.-
