Following the lead of Ireland which took a tough stance against tobacco in 2004. The Dutch will join the list of European countries that ban smoking in cafes and restaurants.

How will this effect their tourist industry?

    Seriously though, great job...second-hand smoke is a terrible problem and cigarettes are disgusting, especially if they are being used in an undesired locale... This movement is wonderful...certain states in the USA have implemented certain measures of these bans, particularly in restaurants; many bars are still available for smokers.

    There are cooler ways to die, like not giving others cancer because of a product that should be called "negative externalities sticks".

  • finaly i was waitig to see this i love it serously screw the tourists if your going to the netherlands your going there for other things anyway...and i think telling smokers to die is somewhat harsh....im sure you have friends that smoke...dumbie
