Ahead of the increasingly likely government-enforced ban on old-style tungsten lightbulbs, it seems that certain people are 'panic-buying' the old things in case they're suddenly removed from the shelves...

  • I will buy many of them.

The give a quicker light then even the better CFLs
The light they produce is so much nicer
The don't require mercury; Just glass argon and tungsten.
I have light fittings that CFLs will not fit in.
I've never had a CFL last 8 years nor half that
    They can set off epileptics.

The motion the EU are passing (spearheaded by Irelands Green Party minister for enviroment, he tried to bring it in here last year buy was not allowed to ban something available in other countries) is another scientifically naive political show.

Can we get actual scientists making rules and not glorified public speakers., Sure CFLs have good points, they do last longer (generally) and they use less energy but they have very real bad points that no one seems to address.

until we stop trying to appear environmental and actually put real thought into the decisions we make, we are still fucked.

  • I love the softer ligthing of CFLs, but they're not always practical - sometimes I need bright light instantly and don't have 15 mins to wait around until they've 'warmed up.'

Like when I'm busting for the loo. Now who'd take a CFL and wee on their bathroom floor over a conventional bulb and no wee on the floor? Not me!

  • The CFL's are great! The newer ones are brighter and warm up faster. I'm giving all of my old light bulbs away.
