Kolkata, Jul 2 : In a bizarre case of medical negligence, nurses at Kolkata’s Belle Vue hospital allegedly declared a baby stillborn, only to find him alive later.
Thirty-three-year-old Sangita Das was admitted to the hospital on the night of July 1, after going into a three-month premature labour.
When taken to the Belle Vue hospital, she was told no doctor was available at the time. Later she gave birth to a baby boy in the same hospital but the nurses informed her the baby was stillborn.
Sangita’s family alleges that without telling them, the hospital arranged a funeral van and prepared a death certificate as well.
But in the morning after a doctor found the baby breathing, they immediately shifted him to another hospital, where he is fighting for life now.
A case of medical negligence has been registered against the hospital.
