After almost 27,000 separate searches over the course of Boris Johnson's 'Operation Blunt 2' 1,214 people have been arrested it was released today at City Hall.
To date Operation Blunt 2 has found and confiscated over 500 knives. However after the recent death of Ben Kinsella, the 17th teenager to have been murdered in London this year, it is clear that the problem is yet to be under control.
"The dreadful murder of Ben Kinsella shows that the problem of knife crime is still with us", says Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair, he went on to promise that "the Met is in this for the long haul and will do everything in its power to stop these murders continuing"
