Hersh: VP Cheney believes he is going to save the world (part one)
Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.

I think Seymour Hersh is being far too generous towards Cheney and is wrong about Cheney's intentions.

This will not SAVE anybody it will just cause more conflicts and deaths unneeded.
-
It's the same in Iran as Iraq...build a fake case and attack..all for the oil and greedy politicians.
-
How do you mean when you think he is wrong about Cheney's intention?
-
I mean that he is giving Cheney undeserved credit - Cheney is not trying to save the world, he's simply trying to make more billions through war profiteering.
-
thought that was what you meant. I think his "save the world" thing is all about trying to make people feel safe with big daddy Cheney so he can continue to do his thing.
-
Cheney doesn't care about saving the world the only thing he cares about is money.
-
Do our legislators get special parking for their mental handicaps? They are either the stupidest people alive or the greediest. What are we going to do to stop all of them? Hasn't any of them got close enough to Cheney to smell the sulphur?

Yet another reason to note vote McCain. Watch him sing "Bomb Iran."
-
They'll support the groups that are in their favor now and then turn their back on them. It is the way of government. Any government that is in this spy game. I wouldn't help a government if I were part of any group that they needed. They'll sweet talk you, use you, trash you and then ruin your life. It's not worth it.

Seymour Hersh is the Paul Revere of today! Only thing is, this time no ones paying attention! We are watching reality television as though it's real? It's a distraction, who's the best, who's the strongest, who's the prettiest? Instead we should be focused on our future, paying attention to what is really going on in the world.
Mainstream media doesn't cover the war any more, because people are buying the distractions. We have been in campaign mode for a year and a half. Listening to what everyone will do 'in the future'. They aren't doing it today, why should they be believed about what they will do tomorrow? -
got that right Conniepae.

Cheney is evil incarnate.

I don't understand, from the looks of things it seems like they are trying these tactics to prevent an all out war, yet people who complain about the prospects of war still complain about this? Iran has a lot of dissidents and a lot of angry people who are unhappy with the regime. Providing resources for them to revolt against a repressive government doesn't seem like a bad idea.
-
DGold, Do you understand they lied about Iraq and they are lying again about Iran? Why can't we mind our own business and let Iran alone to do what they want with their own government? We nose around and put in leaders we want, do you remember Saddam? He was our choice.

dgold, what if your words said this? "United States has a lot of dissidents and a lot of angry people who are unhappy with the regime. Providing resources for them to revolt against a repressive government doesn't seem like a bad idea."
-
è propaganda politica o è verità?
Certo che Bush vuole lasciare il suo mandato così come l'ha incominciato
speriamo bene
is political propaganda or truth?
Certainly that Bush wants to leave his mandate as he started
hopefully good -
He certainly seems to be making the rounds.
-
Are you kidding me with that lame analogy? Are you aware of the laws in place in Iran? When's the last time a US CITIZEN dissident got thrown in jail for writing an article or speaking his mind? Do you know any Iranians? I'll do you one better. "Zimbabwe has a lot of dissidents and a lot of angry people who are unhappy with the regime. Providing resources for them to revolt against a repressive government doesn't seem like a bad idea."
Marilyn Murray, we can't mind our own business because we are the dominant power in the world and we have a moral and ethical duty to stop tyrants and oppression. I can't believe people still make the argument for isolationism, you've got to be kidding me. The funny this in, they're isolationists now, but you'll catch them wearing a Save Darfur T-shirt tomorrow.
I do remember Saddam was out choice, but while I personally disagree with the war in Iraq, you just made a valid argument for it. Same thing with Afghanistan. The thing with global politics is, someone who starts off promising may end up being a complete nutjob, there's no way to tell. Mugabe was a hero in the late 70's early 80's. Che seemed like a good guy in the early 60's. Look what they turned out to be.
People need to stop simplifying global politics and power struggles into black and white affairs. It is not that simple. For example with Iran, I'd be willing to be the Saudi's are pushing just as hard. Iran getting nuclear weapons upsets the entire balance of power in the ME, and the Saudis are rightfully scared of that. Since Iran declared its intentions for nuclear power, at least 7 other ME countries have decided to start their own programs. You think this is a good thing?
That being said, we do make a lot of wrong choices in who we support. We're making the same mistakes with islamofacism that we did with the cold war, ie supporting anything but. -
Amy Goodman interviewed Hersh on Monday on Democracy now.

dgold0101, If we are so moral how come we only try to "save" the poor oppressed people with lots of oil?

We better check the real situation first because there are plenty of idiots inside the war and there are many people who are trying to stole the mines while there is war.
Do you think they can follow orders if the order is to keep the issue left behind the bars?
