The makers and presenters of the BBC's hugely popular motoring show, Top Gear, have been severely reprimanded by the ESC for glamourising drink driving.
In a special 'Polar Exploration' episode which aired earlier in the year, the lead presenter Jeremy Clarkson is filmed driving a Land Rover whilst drinking a Gin and Tonic.
The ESC claimed that the footage was not editorially justified.

I've never personally liked Jeremy Clarkson, his boyish disregard for just about everything and the fact that he gets away with being overgrown teenage lout really gets on my nerves.
I remember watching this episode and thinking that he had really pushed the boat out this time. Hopefully he'll be made to apologise and that pathetic teenage tantrum of righteousness will come to an satisfying end.
We can dream can't we?-

It seems like there's a bit of a Top Gear backlash at the moment - this blog post from the guys at Two Repressed Egotists is typical of a lot of stuff that I've read recently.
I have to say, its been coming for a while...-

This is political correctness gone ... appropriate.

I honestly didn't think anything of this at the time of watching. Come on people drinking and driving is bad on roads, whats he gona hit in the artic tundra. Oh by the way it was bloody funny.
-
there are no laws against drink driving when in international waters. they were driving over the arctic ocean and doing nothing illegal.
-
That's not the point Sankice - if they had been doing something illegal, further action would have been taken sooner.
What they did do, and what they are being reprimanded for, is unnecessarily glamourising drink-driving.-

I just think if people can't be trusted to be intellignent enough to see the difference between having one drink, which by the way would be legal in the UK, on an entertainment show, and drink driving on the motorways, then we should just give up.
-
It would have been irresponsible to show a person driving with a drink in hand on a busy city street or highway, but on open tundra during an obviously controlled situation? With no passers-by or fellow motorists to get injured or even drawn lanes to stay inside? Please, people. Use some common sense. It's not like it's a children's show.

It's not like it's a children's show. You could have fooled me , bunch of overgrown children on it. Top Gear has had it's day , now it's dated and inapropriate, the BBC needs to create a more responsible and forward looking motoring/transport show. One that helps people find alternates to the obligatory car , encourages greener motoring and does away with the boy racer , it's fun to burn copious amounts of fuel attitude.
