McCain's latest ad obscures his record on voting against clean energy

This ad is as phony as his photo-op earlier this year. McCain has repeatedly opposed a renewable electricity standard that would have set a minimum requirement for utilities to generate part of their power from sources like wind.

Check out the link for more ammo on McCain's energy record -- he consistently votes AGAINST renewable energy like solar and wind.

"The real 'purpose' of John McCain's ad is to rewrite the history of how he has repeatedly stood in the way of responsible efforts to make America less dependent on foreign oil and create green jobs," said DNC Communications Director Karen Finney. "In his 25 years in Washington, Senator McCain has been a part of the problem, not the solution on energy independence."

  • "Energy Alternatives" coming from McCain probably just means this new means of drilling for natural gas that requires millions of gallons of poison be pumped into the ground to get the gas to rise. Poison that will eventually find it's way into the watershed after the energy companies who leased the land from the farmers, ranchers and government have moved on.

I, for one, don't want to reduce our dependance on foreign oil if it means destroying our native wilderness. How much sense does it make to stop drilling in the desert and move the pumps into some of the most beautiful and ecologically diverse regions on our continent? It sucks. Keep oil overseas. Keep prices high so people have to face their over-consumption.

  • Barack Obama is not pandering to the Christian right. He does acknowledge that many people in America are Christian and that their faith informs a huge part of their lives. Evangelicals are even jumping on the green bandwagon. Not all Christians are right-wingers. (fwiw, I'm atheist)

  • What the candidates do to get to the "Throne" will never be as important as what they accomplish once seated.
I admit that Sen. Obama is making me uncomfortable right now, but I get his reasoning. He's trying to say that he's not what some would have the Evangelical Christian Right believe about his religious background or his patriotism.
Meanwhile, Sen. McCain is someone I no longer recognize as that, so called, Maverick he appeared to be just a few short years ago. Having Joe Leiberman (as double-jointed a mind as I've ever witnessed) looming in the background doesn't help.
For me, the real "fun" begins when each of the candidates pick their running mates and issues like the US and world economies get debated.

  • the left is taking the opportunity to turn a vague phrase into a noose. in this instance i don't think there's enough to hang him. his policy record on the other hand weaves a very fatal web.

  • Jerome, who would have been your choice for president? I agree that McCain is "better" (for us liberals, ha ha) than any of the other Repub picks before him, but I still think of him as a Republican.

  • If only we had a "pro-choice" Ron Paul/ Kucinich (or perhaps Obama) ticket.
