In the steep mountain jungles on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the rush for environmentally-friendly fuel is endangering the existence of orangutans. Over the past two decades, thousands of acres of tropical rain forests have been converted into palm oil plantations destroying the orangutans' natural habitat. Some UN scientists believe that these plantations could lead to the extinction of the species by 2012. This story is wonderful yet discusting, it shows how human consumption is literally destroying a beautiful species. We as a race really need to act fast or some of the worlds most important species will be gone forever.
