The article covers an experiment in a hospital on thirty six volunteers who were given the drug psilocybin. The resulst? Twenty two of the thirty six reported having a spiritual experience, with the worst negative side effects of the day long test being mild fear or anxiety. The study also checked up a year later on all of the subjects and found no negative effects on these individuals. As one subject put it , "Surrender is intensely powerful. To 'let go' and become enveloped in the beauty of -- in this case music -- was enormously spiritual," one volunteer said.
