Nitrogen trifluoride is a greenhouse gas that’s used to make flat-screen televisions and computer screens. The crux of the problem with NF3 is that it has 17,000 times more destructive atmospheric potential than carbon dioxide. Production of the gas has grown to 4,000 tons per year and is expected to double by next year.
