San Francisco declared itself a Sanctuary City in 1989. This means it doesn't hand over undocumented immigrants to the federal authorities.
Recently the city policy has come under fire when it was revealed that city officials escorted two juveniles with drug charges back to their native Honduras using tax payers' dollars.
Officials on each side of the issue bring up good points about first time offenders vs clear exploitation of San Francisco's sanctuary status.
Mayor Newsom now says that he will direct all felony cases to the Feds.
Could this have anything to do with Newsom's possible run for Govenor?

I say....let them have sanctuary, but if they commit a crime they are out. Americans commit crimes we get fines, we get jail. They commit a crime they should lose the privelage of staying.

Coward. I see this as him directing the cases to the feds so that when they are deported, he takes none of the heat. When they serevre jail time, he faces no heat, when they are set free, he again will face no heat. The only thing this proves is how uncapable he is of making decisions.

If they break the law send them home. I'm sorry, it irritated me to have my car license sticker peeled off and stuck on an illegals car plate. It was an occupational license that was very obvious to anyone that could read English, so it was easy to spot. I found the car called a cop and he peeled it off and returned it to me. Was the car towed? No. Was the owner arrested? No. If I had done that I would have at least had my car towed and been given a ticket. The guy was an illegal he got off with no penalty. In that same California town, San Bruno an enthusiastic cop confiscated my whole damned plate because he saw my personal belongings in my car and knew that I was using the car myself and not selling it with an occupational license on it. Perfectly legal for a dealer to do. I'm glad to see San Francisco change their status.
