Californian artist Jim Denevan has created an astonishing geometric drawing comprising of thousands of circles in the Nevada Desert.

This man deserves an award, it is something to talk about doing something and another to go through with it. Jim Denevan is a role model, I hope to do something rather than talk about it, just like Jim.

I love his comment about how he creates pieces that are created and destroyed at the same time. Although there isn't a tide to come along and destroy the one he did in the desert, maybe a wind/sand storm will come along. His work is amazing!

See: Robert Smithson, Michael Heizer, Joseph Bueys, amongst other artists who started the land based art movement back in the 60's and 70's...

Been done...but awesome nonetheless. -
in the future, the apes will study this thing, and decide that it's an ancient calendar where sacrifices to the salt god were made.
regeneration of the desert soil crust could take ages.-

Give me a break...and follow the link to read the actual article before you try to bring your self righteous "Im greener than you" into it.
PS - the Salt Flats continue to produce more salt all the time which will ultimately ruin the artist's work...and return the "desert soil crust" to plain old desert.
The whole world is headed to be a desert, there's plenty more to worry about than an artist drawing lines in the sand. -
Saying "It's been done," is like saying every painting is obsolete because "It's been done."
This is like Andy Goldsworthy x5...-

This is not even lightly close to Andy Goldsworthy except for the fact that it is an earthwork. Also, Goldsworthy is far more complex than this representation. This artist is far closer to Robert Smithson or Michael Heizer, which I implore you to research.
My point was this is not a new artform, and lines in the desert have been drawn for eons...and earthworks have been around in our modern times since the 50's...
Nonetheless, it is still a fine piece of artwork. -
In a word, stunning.
