Shocking news statistics for 2007, published by the department of health, reveals that an average of 38 knife victims were admitted to accident and emergency departments in the UK every day; amounting to almost 14,000 cases in the year.
The figure has risen 19% from 2003, while the number of females injured has also risen to 10% of cases.
Dr Tunji Lasoye, A&E consultant at King's College Hospital, London claimed that "the numbers of stab victims coming into A&E have gone up", and while "it used to be that we would see isolated cases at weekends ... now it is nearly every day of the week." Worryingly, the age of victims has gone down, with many of the victims in their mid-teens.
These statistics come after a number of knife related deaths of teenagers in the UK, particularly greater London, in the first six months of 2008.

I think there's a lot of truth in that.

I heard on the news yesterday that hospital staff are now to report every stabbing incident to police, in the same manner as gunshot wounds, and in a bid to get a better picture of the knife crime epidemic in the UK.

So what's the explanation? Don't they need to get to the bottom of this rather than just spout off statistics?
